Howdy people. I hail from ye olde Adelaide towne. Graduated a couple of years back with a Multimedia Diploma from Torrens Valley TAFE, where I majored in 3D (Max). Really enjoyed that course too, learnt a bit of everything.

Since then I’ve studied 6 months at Uni SA (didn’t really enjoy that, so I left), and been working for about a year and a half as a part-time video editor guy, and now deciding what I’ll do next year (probably some form of study). Nice to meet you!

Hi Everyone,

Wow! 10 pages and counting… It’s encouraging to know that there is such a community here in Oz, but on the other side of the coin, I’ll be competing with all of you for jobs (eventually).
I’m currently doing the CGC Maya course here in Melbourne, which I am finding really good (and I’m not just saying that cos my lecturer is probably reading this thread). I’d only really dabbled in 3D b4 this course, but I am learning to love Maya  I can’t comment on other courses, but so far I can recommend this one - learning heaps (though the course fee installments are killing me!)
Am also looking forward to the AEAF next week - I have been to previous ones and they are always very inspiriational.
Seeya round,

Andy

Anyone comming to 3December ??? in sydney next week ?

#144

Does anyone know the level of employment in film for trained CG animators (Australian)? just curious:hmm:

#145

Looks I will be going to the AEAF. I hope to meet some of you there.

#146

is anyone going on sunday night (1st dec) to the convention centre?

and Kabab, what’s this 3December thing, it sounds interesting.

#147

ajh_2…what’s the maya course your doing?..

#148

Its pretty much an alias promotion thingy they have every year if you want to register goto;

#149

Satanatron,

I’m studying Maya at the Melbourne offshoot of the Computer Graphics College which is based in Sydney. Because the CGC is owned by the SAE, this is where the Melbourne course is being run from (in the future, they may have their own building). This 8-9 month course is the first to be run here - there are only 9 students enrolled, but judging from the response at open day, there may be many more in future streams.
We are running Maya Complete 4.5 on the latest Mac G4 and access to machines and internet is more than generous. I have learnt heaps so far and hopefully it is a step in the right direction for a 3D career.

Andy

#150

hey ajh_2 have you got anymore info about that course?

when does the next one begin?

#151

No definite dates yet, but probably May or June next year.

Andy

#152

got a website?

#153

Try

http://www.cgc.com.au/about/about_contact.html

There’s not a lot of info about the Melbourne bit yet cos it’s just started, but you can get them to send you a Melbourne brochure.

Andy

I understand theres an open day in Sydney for CGC (30 Nov)
I’ve been thinking about going. Just thought someone else would like to know too.

#155

I was there today…well yesterday now. I’ll probably start at cgc in sydney when i finish yr 12 (late 2003) and by then cgc in sydney will have maya yay.

anyone who has gone through cgc tell us what you think?

#156

I was supposed to be there, but I overslept:annoyed:

I got a few info from CGC, from what I read (unless I read wrong), Maya is now already introduced in classes (someone correct me if Im wrong)

#157

the maya course only exists in melbourne right now and is coming to sydney next year…thats what the course manager said - lee murray I think his name was.

#158

Hi ya all there…
I’m currently high school student, but finishing this year and I’d LOVE to study CG in Australia… what would you recommend me? What school to choose and where… Thank you…
Well and I can manage only 3ds max (but I think good) and also (ofcourse) 2d soft such as Photoshop and for compositing Combustion… But I don’t know MAYA, is that a problem?

#159

Loocas, it doesn’t matter which package you use (as it is reiterated a thousand times on this forum). Maya is a popular tool in Australia, but there is a large following of other packages as well.
I for one have a very comfortable job with 3ds max, so don’t sweat!

#160

Sweet words… I’d love to work with 3ds max, 'cos it’s the only one soft I can manage well! (but it’s on others to judge how good I really am  ) Ok, so now it’s on education… I’d like to study in Australia and I heard about CGC, what do you think of it?
Anyways thank you… :bounce:
