Well the stream of emails is pretty constant… join up and cancel if it’s not for you
There is qantm in Brisbane, can’t comment on the quality of the courses though…
http://www.qantm.com.au/
thx, will do.
Apparently according to an ex student I spoke to, the Brisbane Qantm isn’t very impressive either.
If you’re in or around Ballarat from the 29th of November to the 13th of December, we are holding our Portfolio Show at the new Arts Academy building (the big blue one) on Camp Street, Ballarat.
Another Australian site is http://www.australianinfront.com.au/ It’s mostly related to graphic design, but alot of it is cg art in general. There’s heaps there to look at, too.

i wouldn’t recommend qantm. i a finishing up the diploma in a week and it wasn’t worth the money for me. only really good for people who have no idea about anything.
well, I’m an Aussie too. Not in the industry yet, but planning on it. I just finished VCE this year and am lookin at uni courses, anyone know much about Multimedia Systems (Design) at RMIT?
hmmmm…interesting that so many people wanting to get into 3d see multimedia courses as the way to go.
Though if multimedia is want ya want, I can only comment on Brisbane courses.
Communication Design (think it’s called Creative Arts, or something now) at QUT is a very strong and comprehensive multimedia course.
Though while I discovered that my interest was in 3D animation through doing that course. I also realized that doing a multimeda course is a not a smart idea, if you really want to learn 3D animation.
So I changed over to the animation course at Griffth QCA.
So now I’m getting the traditional animation skills, along with learning a number of animation packages, 2D and 3D.
US Animation, ToonBoom, 3Dsmax, Maya and XSI.
I could go on, But I think I’ll shutup…don’t wanna sound like a sales rep.
There aren’t too many pure 3d courses in Victoria, and most of those are upfront fees.
There is one at Holmesglenn TAFE that deals specifically with 3d (maya is the focus I believe). The RMIT course has had good “reviews” in the past, and the multimedia technology course at Swinburne is relatively good too, since they split it into better focuses.
one of the guys (Daryl Munton) speaking at the Australian Effects & Animation Festival teaches at holmesglenn. He taught at swinburne till partway through last semester, until he realised he was doing too much and had to stop.

Most of the stuff that comes through probably will probably be on no interest but there are a few gems now and again. Also, I would recomend making a seperate account (like a hotmail one) so your regular inbox doesn’t get clogged up with 50+ emails a day.
Also, yes the DLF website is pretty average. After they uverhauled it they regularly updated it for about two or three weeks then they just stopped. they don’t even update the job list anymore, you must be on the mailing list to get this.
Better late than never; count me in.
I work at Animal in the same max team as Matt S who’s already posted in this thread. Hey Matt…
hey guys, eastern Australia

the cg education sounds as botched as it is here, hope to see some of you when i come to Brisbane to strain your job market:)
Allrighty-o,
I’m currently freelancing in Brisbane at the moment, but will be looking for more of a permanent position somewhere in the new year. Should be an interesting venture.
howdy kids,
I’m a happy little melbournite freelancing round the place. My friend (James THP) and I started a company earlier this year, Two Heads Productions, but we’re still getting our footing. We made a short earlier this year that won the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Short Film Competition. If that weren’t enough, it got personally invited into the AEAF Awards by Bill Dawes (Mr Digital Media World Mag) and we only found out over the weekend that it made it in as a finalist!! not sure who the other nominees are yet, but as Pixar won it last year, and it looks like Chubb Chubbs will be in there somewhere, we’re not holding our breath! "It’s just an honour to be nominated!
" It’s alll kinda funny as we’re just 2 guys fumbling our way thru it all. Anyways, we’ll be up at AEAF if anyone wants to meet up!
If you wanna see the short then click here: Things You Shouldn’t Do To Baby Chickens

ps. my bud James teaches the Maya course at CGC in Melbourne, feel free to ask him any questions: james THP
