Timewaste, what city are you looking to come to? or are you planning to go back to Hobart?

#322

Wow, that was the fastest reply ever, thanks!

My favourite cities would be Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. Mostly because I think these
are the “hot spots” with the best opportunities. But since I love the country as a whole, the city is not really important.

Well, kinda. I’m originally from Detroit.

You may have heard of me. Chances are I’ve been fired from a company you’ve worked for.

I’m now a borderline alcoholic thanks to McKay. I’m currently back in Sydney working at a little place called ProMotion Studios. Great place!

Hey, I need some critiques on my reel so I can pare it down to the bestest of the bestest!

DJ,

Being fired from Animal is getting to be a badge of Honour in this industry. Although it took some serious effort to do it in such spectacular style!

If you want to work as an fx animator your best bet is probably Sydney. Its expensive and full of rude people who will gladly sell their soul to get one step ahead, you’ll love it !

Shops like Animal and RSP will happily respond to international applicants if they like your work. But generally it is a LOT easier if you are local !

#325

ive heard this several times before, but there are a few large studio’s in melbourne, just seems to be more jobs in sydney.

what happened at animal ? o.O

Thanks for your comments, guys! I’ll let you know, where I’ll end up.

??? :curious:

#328

Dont know why your coming down under if your looking for Film VFX work ,the big exodus is about to start as all the large jobs are soon to draw down … USA / London here we come !!!

#329

Primarily I’m coming down under because it’s my home of choice (I waited for that for so many years now)…and Film VFX would be the job of my dreams, but for now I just want to get a foot in the door, the medium is secondary.

My head hurts.

London here we come

Truer words have never been spoken
Hello from that little isolated town we call Perth.

#333

I think he may’ve been trying to quote you. Not sure though :surprised

#334

Hey just curious, for people starting out in the industry, which houses do you guys think are more likely to pick up someone who has a good reel but no industry experience.
Most studios want both but you’ve got to start somewhere right?
I’m trying to finish off my compositing reel and although I’ll fling it around to as many houses as I can find, I was just more or less wondering who might be the best bet.

…or is this a really stupid question?

#335

Not a stupid question, I am trying to figure out the same, I’ve found one game studio that hires without experience, but I am looking for more, Irrational Games is one.
I am re-making my demo reel, so I haven’t applied, I hope the game studios there are hiring high res modelers for Normal map generation.
