Just wanted to get involve and say about it…well me…
Was a lecturer at Monash for nye on four years starting with Max and then moving into Maya at the School of Multimedia, currently now teaching Max(again) at AIE in melbourne to the 1st year Art students.
A couple things to say about software, they both can do the job, though you just have to get around Max’s stubborness to get it done properly, compared to Maya’s, didn’t work? I’ll script the bugger and make it do it.
Our student range of skill is quite diverse, since we get gamers and students interested in film animation. Good thing about AIE compared to previous uni teaching: it’s 20 hours per week working in 3D, either exercises and projects, compared to uni’s 1-2 lecture on theory and 2-3 tutorial and thats per week. Plus the other units you have to study.
Have to say Melbourne’s pretty good for graduates for us in the games industry at the moment, a lot of our second year Game Artists have been offered contracts with local games companies already.
Our second year screen students (we have a small class) are doing some very great pieces of work, and will most likely launch a few into some festivals. I do have to say the Screen teacher Bruce Currie is a brilliant guide and mentor to those students.
Will be heading along to the AGDC, so if you see me (I’ll be wearing a rose. HAH!!!) Say hi, or I might be just manning a booth.
Good to be Australian and great be part of the industry.
