DLF really need to make a forum for the mailings or do both.
Australian CG Artists
Hmmmm, P2P seems to be on a hiatus at the moment, no idea why but it’d be best to ask Troy about it
There was one DLF meeting back in May, a bit of a small turnout but was otherwise pretty good. Might be another one before the year is out.
yeah bne dlf meets kinda suck ass
we put some good ones together back in the cutting edge days but ohwell…
what’s good at aeaf this year? I’m never around for them
this probably isnt the best place to be asking these sorts of questions but, hey.
allan. this is refering to afterburns combustion. ive made my scene of vines, using combustion. no phase on anything watsoever, i can render in perspective veiwport and its fine. but wenever i make a camera flythrough the scene, a phase kicks in. i dont want my combustion to be animated, is this possible??
Hey!
I’m a Brisbane CG artist. I do digital painting (sci-fi mainly) and anime illustrations.
Currently studying Bachelor of Creative Industries (Visual Arts) and QUT, first year.
James, wait so you animate your camera and it phases??
sure it isn’t step size or something?
hmm that’s very strange
email the file to allan@allanmckay.com if you want me to take a look.

going to be on the max 8 tour next month if anyone wants to check out some cool particle shit up close.
Hi i’m a brisbane cg artist, just about to start at a Auran as a junior. I’m really looking forward to it, should be fun.
cheers heaps allan , good man.

HoHo so many people from australia actually, I’m in sydney just back, i do freelance work from time to time
But I have to finish my degree in UNSW first…what about anyone from UNSW?! No way…probably not…Maybe COFA?!
Nice, just noticed this thread, it certainly is good to see all these Aussies on CGTalk.
I’ve been hanging around the forums quite a bit but never really post much. Should get around to it more.
Anyway,I’m finishing up my second year course using Maya over at the AIE - finding it great and I’m learning a lot and getting to be more fluent with Maya all the time.
it’ll be free
it’s just a max 8 promo event, where a bunch of discreet guys come on stage and show off some of it’s new features etc. I’ll just be showing off some of the stuff I’ve been doing lately, lots of max particle effects etc. and some other stuff.
no idea about the details yet, I’m sure there’s a press statement somewhere, if not I’ll find out a bit closer to the date. (it’s 4 weeks away).
hi amckay,
are you talking about the one to be held at Griffith QCA Southbank on the 23 Sept? i went to the Autodesk Epic game thing yesterday and heard about a max 8 event. I think i might goto that.
about brisbane dlf meetings, i don’t think they’re on anymore, i heard about a dead animators society about a month ago and went to one of them, just wondering if anyone hereis in the dead animator society? I was a newbie though, so i didn’t know anyone then.
Oh cool you went to that too? I was meant to be a speaker on that thing.
cool yeah sept 23rd, myself and Ben Richards will be up there, not sure who else. Should be fun.
Hey amckay,
I’m living in Sydney and have just completed a course using 3ds max but have taught myself to a proficient level in Maya. I’m now getting to the point where i’m nearly finished a reel. I know you started quite a while back and things may have changed a little, but what is your advice for someone trying to get their foot in the industry of Australia? Say like, how did you first start? Some professional advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers
hey guys and girls!
im sure its been mentioned before, but a massive melbourne meetup would be fantastic to have happen
thoughts?
How about when the AGDC is on? Some friends and I will (hopefully) be part of the volunteers helping things runs smoothly for a few days. Beer and food is always good.
Ah holy ****. I freaken study Animation at QCA, and nobody told me Allan Mckay was going to speak there? man im so pissed off. oh well.
im almost graduated there though, planning to live and work in brisbane for a few years.
peddy - I’ll be teaching a masterclass at AEAF on fx : http://www.dmw.com.au/html/DMF/dmf_syd_05/AEAF.htm
can always come to that
You mean to tell me that there is more than one place in Aus that uses Lightwave? I went for an interview at Ashford Films and was quite surprised that they use Lightwave and quite happy of doing so. Unfourtunately I am a Marxist (Max user)… well, not unfourtunately BIG HUG for PFlow
