Ha, I was actually there today! At that ‘artisans’ cafe. There’s going to be an out door cinema screening in the gardens soon. I went for an interview to be one of the crew, box office staff etc. If I’m lucky and get the job I’ll be able to watch Finding Nemo for free every couple of nights

You could come and say hi, or get some of your students to. As I said in my previous post I’d really like to meet other people interested in CG.

But thats only of I get the job.

BigSky you were in Melbourne, what do you rekon my changes would be? Do you know of any studios that are willing to take on ‘newbies’, or is it much the same as here?
I’ve heard that it would be more likely just by the sheer size of the industry.

#202

Hey BigSky, is that you, Chris? :wavey:

We’re just starting a new degree in CG, which will be a hybrid trad. arts thing, but offering highend subjects, mel, rigging, game art, dynamics, etc. Should be fun!

Ah! so that’s what the invitation in the mail was for! Sounds pretty nifty so far.

Hi Guys,

Another Melbourne-based freelancer here.

Do corporate work and TVC’s. My tools of trade of are mainly Maya and ZBrush.

Also write for Highend Magazine - see issue 3 released today in the US.

C’mon Collingwood!

Paul (RibRaT)

hey Paul Moran :wavey:

Did you go to Mount Druitt TAFE a couple of years ago? There was a guy in my class with the exact same name as you.

#206

Hey BigSky, is that you, Chris?

Yep!

Media Munky: Well, Melbing is pretty tight as well, you know how it is. The ‘first gig’ is always hard to get.
I think the idea for a brizzie meeting is a great idea.
And oooohhhh i’d love the DLF to be a forum instead of a list.
Let us know if you get the theatre gig:thumbsup:

Nope! even better. I got a CG gig!!!. But its only for about three weeks, and I am not being payed a lot. But its the break I need!!. Ironically on my 2nd day of work I went home and checked my email, and I got an email from an arch-viz company I sent my reel to about three months ago telling me that they want somone with my skills etc. Strange how these things always happen all at once:shrug: :curious:

#211

so true munky…I sent some of my HSC work (about 2 months ago) , for critiquing, to animal logic. Full didnt expect a reply and got on the other day. Pretty cool.

Anyway,

Yeah I wanna do AFTRS…it looks pretty elite…probably going to do CGC then go there…its only like 5k.

Yep

:wavey:

OK, how 'bout it then, anyone actually interested in a cgtalk-Brisbane-get-together, like the UK guys did?

If anyone thinks its a good idea we can start a new thread, but I thought I’d just post this here just in case there’s no interest.

So whatdoya guys say?
Up for it?

It would be cool to have a few  with some other local cg artists.

See ya (hopefully)

#213

well shit people.

I have been looking forward to going to CGC the whole year and doing the freshly formed Maya course (a 3DS course exists too) and I have been calling/emailing them for months about when the first course is in 2004 (since I got my HSC etc) and they have just told me no that they are unsure about it due to lack of ‘interest’. F*&K
this place looked sweet and now its either go somewhere else or learn the 3DS course.

any ideas,

especially from the people going to CGC already (Syndey)

#214

Hey Mate,

I start the Maya course on the 3rd of Nov (sorry dude!!..had a brain melt!!! its only 1 month away) Im hoping the lack of interest is not carried into the teaching minds :stuck_out_tongue: … ill let you know how it goes, and how the 2004 propects are looking …no worries

If you want to contact me to talk about CGC etc etc just email me: paul@vfxtalk.com

Cheers

Paul

I don’t know if anyone is bored with this thread, 'cause I’m new here… but just in case though I’m giving you the FYI on my situation.

I’m a Brisbane max user, worked at a place called Media Odyssey for the last couple of years.
Thanks Media Monkey for pointing out this forum. I must be internet blind to somehow not find this stuff on my own.

Ohh well, I’m off.
Toodles

Hi all, I’m a freelance 3D Artist in Melbourne. Doing work for a couple of architects here and in Sydney. Just starting work this year, finding what I can and getting experience in the CG industry.

Too many posts to comment on, thanks for starting it Sphere

#217

Hey all.

I’m Melbourne based.

Worked for a few years at some post facilities in Melb. Then went back to school to study Multimedia, and after some time freelancing have decided to come back to 3D with a vengance (or at least try).
