Hey guys, I’m starting the 10 week 3D animation course at AFTRS in a couple of weeks. Has anyone done this course?
Hey guys,
Wow, cool to see so many fellow Aussies. Well I’m in Brissy and ‘in the industry’
Cheers,
im in sydney, seriously considering taking the new Maya course at the computer graphics college very soon…
anyone got any opinions on CGC or SGC or official (expensive) training in general …is it worth it ??
Personally id rather spend 12 months working for free in a production house and learn on the job, then shell out the $$ for official training …anyone interested in giving me an opportunity at their place
??
Look forward to hearing your opinions
Cheers guys :bounce:
On the North Coast of NSW… My work is drying up around here… Might be moving soon to look for work…

BTW!!!
help me out fellow sydney peeps
Cheers fellas
AND KEEP THIS GREAT THREAD ALIVE!!!
Hey
Melbourne Based student doing Multimedia Systems at RMIT, second year at the moment,
Decent course, teaches you more then just multimedia stuff tho, a fair bit of programing, and business chucked in as well. In the 3rd and forth year yo chose where you want go (design/business/programming). Not sure what i want to do yet, i really like the idea of CG, and 3d modelling but i can’t for the life of me teach myself it. Even with the few books i have bought i can’t do anything at all. My skills lie in Photoshop, and flash i guess.
Can anyone recommend a good short introduction course to maya in melbourne that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg?
Oh i also run a Hardware review site Digital Domination so i will be at the AGDC as a media repersentative

I figured I’d get my hand in a few more stuff than CG (we get into that stuff too though), in fact, my lecturer admits to being a CG geek (he uses Maya / Max). Multimedia gets into design stuff too. CGC’s pretty cool. Im guessing you’ve been there?
Melbourne Cg artist wannabe.
Lightwave, mac based.
Who else is mac lightwave based?
Caveboy in carlton was if I rememeber?
dam. i only just noticed this thread.
live in sydney, 3ds maxer. Has anyone been to aftrs i’m thinking of going there next year but its alot of money
well it sure is a long thread isnt it. I’m in Perth and co-run my own 3D animation business with an ex coworker (both ex Bungarra Software workers  ). We formed the company late last year and have done some VFX work for a documentary that will be on Discovery channel later this year, done some VFX work for some training / promotional videos, bits and pieces of architectural stuff, real time simulation graphics etc. Currently we’re predominantly a 2 man operation but hopefully with some of the possible / probable work we’ve got happening we’ll be expanding early next year.
Personally i did a Multimedia Diploma years ago at what was then called AMTC (now its just E-Central TAFE) and pretty much was self taught at 3D, previously i’ve worked as a graphic designer / web developer, animation and digital graphics lecturer, and artist / art director for Bungarra Software.
Dave.
Just wondering if theres many people who have made the jump from games to tv or film.
I’m a max user primarily and have been doing more high end stuff in my spare time and am starting to think I like it better than game work.
If any of you have made the switch, I’d be interested to hear about your experiences and how steep a learning curve there is.
Hi All,
I have registered for the Maya course at CGC here in Syd.
Looking forward to it!! anyone else going there thats here, if so, it would be good to meet up somewhere, have a few drinks etc etc ?? It’ll be sooo good to be a student again
Cheers,
Paul

might see u around paul
Oz-O-Rama!
I’m in Brisbane now, used to work at Animagrafx in Melbourne, now I’m teaching at QUT, and freelancing. The animation stream at QUT teaches Maya, and traditional animation though their Com. Design. course. We’re just starting a new degree in CG, which will be a hybrid trad. arts thing, but offering highend subjects, mel, rigging, game art, dynamics, etc. Should be fun!
If you have suggestions on what you think would be a kick-ass CG course, then there’s
this thread.

I’d definately be up for that. Hmmm, wonder why I didnt read anything about a Brisbane meetup on DLF, my email account must have been full. Just while I’m on the subject, I dont understand why the DLF has to be a mailing list, I think it would be alot better if it were a forum, like say,…cgtalk.
Actually what I think would be cool would be a meetup for students/people not in the industry yet.
I finnished a 2 year Max/Maya animation course at the end of last year----Moved to brisbane, and have been trying for the last couple of month to break into the industry. Man, I never imagined it would be so difficult.
Unfortunately I dont have a decent pc for 3d at the moment which kind of sux. But I really need to get back into it, not improving at all at the moment, actually getting a bit rusty.
So if any Brissy people want to meet up sometime that would be cool. I know hardly any people here, let alone CG artists, so I’d really like a chance to meet with other like-minded people.
Hmmm, maybe we could start a new thread for this if people are interested.
I’ve actually been thinking of sending my reel down to Melbourne, things seem to be rather dry down here. If any Melbourne people could offer any thoughts on this I’d really appreciate it.
