Why without bridge?
If it is because of the poly’s it adds… here is a work-around:
select the polys to be detached.
extract in an approriate axis an easy to remember numerical distance (use TAB typed entry) - it’s best to go with factors of 10 (as they are easiest to remember (1,10,100, 1000 etc…)
reselect poly’s that you extracted from and delete
assign the “hole” material to the new poly
do your poly pushing
when ready to reattach -
bridge the two “hole” polys
select the edge loop (or manually select the edges) around the edgeloop at the extracted location
select/by verts w/ 2 edges and delete
select all the verts at your extraction location and move back with the axis & distance, everything should be peachy
that is one of the tips I plan to make a tutorial for one of these days… if anyone every runs across a situation that that won’t work for, let me know via PM…
This will be a great little script if bjorn ever gets around to adding scripting and a few new select options… but those are likely post 1.0 features.
tip… you can make good use of storing selections to speed up the process
DOH!
That works well too!
Honestly hadn’t ever used weld… bad experiences w/ it in other apps must have jaded me to the point of ignoring it… LOL
Color me stoopid.
