I had a talk with my friend at ATI, he’s been moved to a upper department so he won’t be on drivers anymore. He recommends that we all send our concerns directly to ATI developer support at devrel@ati.com and ask for their cooperation with PMG to update their drivers for Messiah users (which there seem to be alot of).
ATI.Messiah users of the world unite!
Yes, the messiah community is growing very quickly. If the users start contacting them, they’ll have to respond. We’ve always been willing to work with them to resolve the issues, maybe now we will see some movement.

I wrote to them, maybe this will come in useful as a form for others to write in. Maybe there’s a good list of issues that s.o. could include in this. Or a link to thread discussion that sums up the problems. Here’s the letter:
"Dear Sirs and Madams,
I’m writing to convey the importance of compatibility with the 3D animation software “project:messiah” (www.projectmessiah.com) when I evaluate and purchase graphic cards. I would welcome ATI’s engagement to make this software usable with your hardware products. Currently there are numerous refresh and feedback issues which make ATI cards unusable.
Thank you in advance,
xxx"
Email sent … I added that I had to pull out a filegl and replace it with an nVidia 5700. I hope that stings them, because it hurt me alot.
cheers.
I appreciate anyone that’s written ATI thus far!
The thing is that Lyle gave me some time before the release of animate 4 to work with him on making Messiah more compatible with ATI cards. It was in regards to the what happened when messiah was modified for the 3Dlabs cards, I was so gracious that he made the effort and made a fix for the problem… Now its ATI’s turn…the least they could do is form some sort of developer relations with PMG.
I had figured out that yes Messiah will work perfectly with driver versions prior to 4.3. Anything after that we either have problems with text fields and armatures. Forget running Zbrush with versions prior to 3.X
The only question(s) I have left for Lyle, is there any chance you might know what reasons the text fields won’t display? Any chance of a custom code path for NV and ATI cards?
heres a cut and paste of an email i sent to the Messiah forum on Yahoo…
Armed with the knowledge that my Radeon 9600 pro works fine using Lightwave, Zbrush, Modo and Maya, also having a spare few hours - here are the settings that my new copy of Messiah:Workstation will run on :-
WinXP SP2,1280*960 res, 60Hz refresh rate (those two dont seem to have much effect on things), 32bit colour, Driver 6.14.10.6497, IMPORTANT ONE -Hardware Acceleration turned down to half way (disable all advanced drawing accelerations) OpenGL antialiasing and anisotropic filtering set to application prefference Texutre and Mipmap doesnt seem to matter what setting, but i have them on High Quality, and another important one - Wait for Vertial Sync turned up to always on.
Before any tinkering it looked like there is an odd screen coordinate thing going on - none of the input fields had any numbers in in the main widow, and also wouldnt accept any input.
It still chugs every now and again - especially switching from the help files to Messiah - but until now its useable. Im still going over the tuorials so i havent tried these settings to destruction - ill keep posting if anyones interested.
Hope some of this helps.
Ive NEVER had any problems with my graphics card and Zbrush. Since then i have used Messiah ALOT and… well… it crashes, but not nearly as much as Maya3.0 used to
Still - you shouldnt have to turn your card almost off to get things to run - so ill nag ATI shortly…
cheers

I don’t know if this applies to anyone else but, I have the ATI 9550 and just installed the Catalyst Control center (all newest drivers and control center) and can now run the demo with absolutely no problems. Prior to the Catalyst Control Center, I couldn’t run the program at all.
I’ve tried the catalyst control center before it uses the same driver & control panel information. The problems are still ever present, no readable text fields and Armatures not showing up correctly.
I am using Driver version 3.10 now and it works without turning down any acceleration. All the input fields and armatures work. Their current drivers should not break things they have previously have had working. I think Messiah does ask a great deal from a graphics cards(take this as a compliment), but if it didn’t it wouldn’t perform so well. ATI has to respond if enough of us email them.
The only reason I am suggesting this method of direct communication is because my friend Wally was promoted and no longer is on Catalyst driver development.
I’ll send an email, but as a potential ATI customer. Will they listen though? I’ll be upgrading this year to a Dual Xeon HT with some form of PCI-Express card, either Nvidia which doesn’t seem to work well with messiah nor some of my other 3D apps or ATI(Do they have a pro PCI-X card?). Anyway, whichever card works for most of my apps will get my purchase order.
Cheers,
