assigning mouse in 3ds Max

I’m a lightwave user who wants to use 3ds max more often. In lightwave the short cut keys for the camera use a combination of ctrl, alt, and shift + left click. 3ds Max uses the middle mouse button and it is very awkward for me.

I’ve searched the internet and found nothing telling me how to assign the mouse to the short cut keys in 3ds max. Is it possible? When in the assignment text box I can press ctrl and alt and they appear in the assignment box but when I click the left mouse button it does nothing, just clicks. There has to be a way. I appreciate and help with this.

By default there isn’t a way to change the navigation keys

I know there was some plugin/program that would allow you to change the navigation to be like Maya, but I don’t know about Lightwave–I would imagine not.
