Artist Bedroom

Hi people,

I’ve been working on this piece and will be re-rendering it due to a few things:

white crate
milk carton
alarm clock
general noise
fog/dust - It’s not quite how I wanted

I would like to get some feedback from you guys before I do so, just so I can address anything else you think needs changing.

Any feedback would be appreciated!

I made a few changes and rendered another angle. I’m quite pleased with the outcome, but feedback is still very welcome and I will consider re-rendering. Thank you

Could you describe what are you aiming for, if you go for specific feeling you saw in other work, maybe put it as a reference (for us to see), or at the very least make a final camera position.
Currently this is a bit all over the place and confusing in what is the main point of this picture. Since it’s all very dark, you will naturally go for the brightest part, but the brightest part lights up…nothing. Our eyes are literally atracted to nothing.

I feel you tried to make something like this:

So, I almost lost my train of thought, but if it really is something like above I can see two ways to go.
Position the camera in such a way that the light is lighting up the main object of the story. While everything else serves as a bg.

Or leave it as is, but brighten up the whole area (in case that everything is interesting and you want viewer to look at everything). Take the pic above as example for this case. You see that everything can be clearly seen, both the floor, the roof, the cupboard, even rubish etc.

Hi Kazkas,

Thanks for the feedback. The inspiration was just an idea I came up with, but was originally going for some volume scattering like in the image you linked, yes. I wasn’t happy with the result, though, so I removed it. I will experiment with using an area light instead of a spot for the volumetric light and changing the light angle and colour so that it is relatively physically correct.

The image is also appearing dark on the monitor I am currently using (as opposed to my home monitor), so I need to look into properly calibrating all my monitors. I suspect this is what’s causing it to appear dark on your monitor.

I aim to have several camera angles with some closer shots just to display the models properly.
