Article in 3D World

Check out the latest version of 3D World, the one with the wolf on the cover, to read a review of EI 8 by none other than Lance Evans. One pager review.

This link just shows the cover and not the actual article.

Unlike V7, looks like Lance really tried the software before reviewing it this time…
The press release was more informative but the article is actually quite positive.
A nice full page advertisement at no cost…

Yes, the article is positive but weak in content. Hardly anything is addressed in any detail, about 9 paragraphs total. Surprising for a guy who wrote an entire book on EI.

3D World is difficult to get in the US. I can’t even get these guys to return an email. I did run across a copy of this issue in Los Angeles though. For anyone else having problems locating a copy, here is the review: http://www.4dmaze.com/images/other/3DWorld-EI.jpg -Derryl

Thanks for posting the review. I find myself agreeing with Lance, only a few new features were added for version 8, mostly in lighting and render enhancement.

Also, as he points out, we’ve got a long way to go in many areas, integrated modeling functions, higher quality interactive previews, and an interface overhaul.

He completely overlooks model I/O, asset management, texturing, key frame and F Curve upgrades, Rigging tools, and lots of other stuff.

Anyway - this will be the year we see how the dust settles, and find out what Tomas and the Igors have planned for EIAS. Perhaps we’ll get an idea of how they plan to proceed and what development path they have in mind for EI.
