[font=Courier New]Hey CGSociety. I have to say, I was really amped about finding this site, and I’m excited to see what I can learn from the many artists here (indeed, I’m sure there is a ton I can learn here).
I’m an Art/Comm major at UVU (in Utah), working towards a career in visual effects. I originally started with a background training in traditional, non-digital media (with the exception of CS). For the last 2 years, I’ve begun learning the digital tools of the CG industry, and I’m having the time of my life! I’m in love with programs I’ve been able to study so far; Maya, Painter, etc., they’re amazing.
However, apart from my Maya modeling/rendering classes, I haven’t had much experience with other 3D tools, and I’d like to learn some of them on the side. Which of them are currently being used the most in the game/movie industries, and, which of them would be the most valuable to become familiar with?
