Just started testing Arnold Stand-Ins in Maya 2017 - noticed that the option “defer load” has been removed and a render now uses approximately double the amount of RAM as a scene with the same stand ins in Maya 2016.
Is this related? I know with “defer” off - the scene loads stand ins at render initialisation rather than waiting for a ray to hit it in the render - would this account for the higher ram use?
Arnold render log shows the ram difference between renders from 2016 and 2017 to be part of "unaccounted " .
I’m using stand-ins to load multiple high poly tiles to assemble a terrain, each tile is unique - this used less memory in 2016 at the expense of some instability in the Arnold Render view.
I wonder if this feature has been quietly turned off in order to improve the reliability of stand- ins?
Of course, if I’m barking up the wrong tree. please let me know…
