Architectural Interior (still)

#1

Hi guys,

after a few years using 3D software and a few months of many V-Ray Tutorials, I’ve tried to create my first render using V-Ray that aims to be photorealistic. I’m quite satisfied with my result, but I think it’s still far from the realisitc look I’m trying to achieve. I know there still are some problems, and I’m posting here, hoping you can help me spot those.

Here’s my render.

The scene is very simple by purpose. I didn’t put more objects in it than neccesary, so I can fix problems quicker than in a huge scene. Most of the objects, with the exception of the sideboard, are stock objects. All materials are made by myself, using stock textures.
It’s rendered with one of Peter Guthries HDRIs in V-Ray. Any feedback is highly appreciated.

Thanks!

(If it helps, here you can find the render before Photoshop (just some basic grading in LR)

Hi there nice start i guess im in almost the same spot as you are trying to learn archviz.
Imo the render looked better before you brought it to PS, it looked sharper/clearer and hade more contrast.
The dof looks like its been done with a brush and gets to strong to fast, the image also lacks contrast and a clear focal point.
The render and textures are good, if i were you i would look at some post process tutorials or tutorials that shows how to touch up photos in ps. Also maybe read up a bit on composition. Looking forward to see your progress!

I quite like it, but:

-chomatic abberation crap makes it look fake its a plague I hate in games especially.
-add tons of antialiasing, those harsh pixels on edges are cutting my eyes.
-depth of field is just bad you have sharp foculs about 1m long and then suddenly on right, it goes blurred like crazy
-and that sharpening is final nail to the grave

It looks like you desperately tried to make it super realistic in post, but it is so much overdone…

I bet original image looks much better than postprocessed.
Edit: oh, I noticed you posted link to original image, and yes, it is MUCH better

Thank you both for your feedback! I’m quite happy you both think my main problem is the post production. I was afraid my render wasn’t too great to begin with.
Actually, I made the post production alongside Viscrobels famous post-production tut, but I guess I really overdid it.
I tried to respect all of your suggestions for the second version, and I think it’s really better than the first one.
More AA, less Dreamy, less sharpening, wayyy less CA, and more realistic DOF. Additionaly, I tried to keep the colors somewhat more saturated and neutral.
I hope you like it! As before, I’m very happy with further suggestions to improve the image even more. Thanks!
