Aqsis - Google Summer of Code 2007

#1

Hi!

As you may or may not know, Aqsis has been selected this year as a mentoring organization for Google’s Summer of Code.

For those of you who don’t know what SoC is, check google’s FAQ. Make sure you check the payment FAQ.

From Aqsis.org:

As announced today by Google, Aqsis has been accepted into this years ‘Summer of Code’… so time to get those idea/project submissions in! - http://code.google.com/soc

We are now looking for students to submit their applications for ideas/projects, no-later than March 24th (deadline).

More information on our SoC efforts can be found on the wiki…

http://wiki.aqsis.org/dev/soc_2007

For anyone looking to submit something feel free to post a topic on the forum or pop-by our official #aqsis IRC channel over at Freenode (irc.freenode.net).

This is a great boost to the project and fantastic opportunity for anyone looking to get (more) involved.

Look forward to hearing from you!

As you can see, the deadline is 5 days from now, so students, be quick to submit your proposal!

In case you don’t know Aqsis - Aqsis is a free Renderman implementation for Linux, Windows and Mac OS. It’s in development since a few years, quite mature and very stable. So if you are interested in how Cg ‘works’, I can really recommend you to take a look, as there aren’t many open source implementations of Renderman out there.

It’s especially interesting cause this is a big project which covers many different areas, from sampling over shading (with its own compiler and VM!), very nice object-oriented programming, optimisation, etc.

Sounds pretty cool. How is it’s intergration with apps? or scripting ability?

#4

Integration? Still working on it.

Scripting? What do you mean? Shaders are completely programmable, as per Renderman shading language.
