You would be better off doing some research on artists that you like and contacting them personally. Seek out the kind of artist that you feel will push you forward rather than just anybody willing to help you out. Many artists are more than happy to pass their techniques and knowledge, most likely for a fair fee.
Look for artists with as much industry experience as you can afford. Perhaps some that are already teaching somewhere as they may be more “academically structured”.
It’s important to work with someone who is going to be patient with you and go the extra mile rather than just teach you stuff you can already learn in a DVD.
Partner up with the right mentor and it could be a great experience for you.
