Anyone for ornatrix hair for messiah?

#1

Bringing up this hair plugin again. A 3rd party hair plugin system for max.

http://www.ephere.com/ornatrix/

Nice, stuff, I got to test it out months ago on a friend’s Max. Unlike Worley, this guy seems willing to support other platforms if there was incentive and manpower. If pmG can work with him to license and develop his hair system, we might be able to have one intregrated into messiah as a separate module. Anyone else interested in that prospect?

Cheers,

since i will buy messiah in about 4 weeks i’m all for it.
please bring this plugin to messiah it looks very nice!!

#3

That is a bad @$$ plugin for max…Makes Shag hair look like a toy. All we need is some sort of hair plugin for messiah and we are styling

#4

Oh yes, that would be great … go for messiah … :bounce:

Are there some animations around? I couldn’t find any on the homepage. Really curious how the hair will look like being animated.

I vote for it …

Anyone else interested in that prospect?
This is a 500% YES! :bounce:

Since hair is the most requested feature for messiah ever and Ornatrix looks absolutely great, pmG should really try to get this guy into the boat!

Go for it!

I remember this being brought up sometime last year. Let’s hope and pray that pmG and the developer of Ornatrix can atleast start a fruitful diaglogue. messiah needs a hair/fur solution.

A rigid body dynamics system was brought up as well last year… the same one that XSI uses … what was the name of that again? Another great resource that happens to be open source.

ODE www.ode.org

ODE’s BSD license allows you to use the source code free of charge in your commercial products.
I don’t know what it is going to take to intregrate it, but it comes with a fully-functional API.

It would be killer if we can get both Ornatrix Hair and ODE RBD intregrated in messiah.

Cheers,

aight, i am down with it

that would be great !

After looking at some of the tutorial videos, I doubt that it really can be integrated in messiah. The current SDK allows neither creation of geometry nor any “guide stuff” or visual cues. You can’t select and manipulate polygons or points and you can’t create interactive tools that work in the viewport.
So it would have to be something like Shave and a Haircut, an external app to create and style the hair, and a shader to render it (at least that could be possible if it isn’t geometry based). But still you wouldn’t have a preview in the viewport…

ODE integration should be possible and not too hard (if someone has the time to do it), since it only deforms/transforms existing geometry.

I also looked into RealFlow3 integration - the new version really kicks ass - , but again, the SDK lacks too many options: No particle creation or direct animation is possible, no geometry import/creation and the metablobs are still completely broken in 2.1.

As sad as it is, I think messiahs has a long way to go until it is an interesting option for developers of more advanced tools…

Oh, yes…sign me up. Would be wonderful to have this
option available in Messiah.

I’ll throw my hat in but is PMG looking at this thread.

Whenever calls like this go out requesting some type of hair solution for messiah, I get the impression that it’s not likely to happen for quite a long time if at all.

Given the amount of time that has transpired since I first got on board (early on) anticipating great things from the pmG renderer that was purported to be “arnold” I have to say that I’m a bit disappointed that it hasn’t quite lived up to my expectations yet.

So for the animation tools so far I give a thumbs up, but for the render side, well…

As always, we’re open to addressing the special needs of developers. We’ve lobbied with Worley to port to messiah, but he’s been too busy with current projects to break away. It’s been the same for Joe Alter.

If the makers of this plug is seriously considering messiah support, just have them contact me directly at my projectmessiah.com address. We’ll work with them to address their requirements.

ps: for those of you who have been following my posts, our position hasn’t changed. We’re serious about providing messiah users with a good hair/fur solution, one way or another.

I got a response from Ornatrix’s developer Marsel

Looks like Messiah users are certainly hungry for hair  I would love to do
a port to Messiah, however at the time I don’t have any spare time to do so.
I will consider it for near future though, and I’ll also have to study
Messiah’s SDK as I never had to deal with it.

Marsel

Seems like a good guy, lets hope there is a future for ornatrix in messiah in the neat future.

Cheers,

PMG could also try this,http://www.fxrealm.com/products/furistic/lwfeatures.htm, were
developing this plugin but stopped.I read in lightwave forum they may be willing to sell code,PMG take note.

For Inspire 1.0, too, mmmmm … that code has been stagnant for quite a while then. Wonder what happened to development. I can’t believe they still have Metagroove listed for $149. A blast from the past. :)
