Another Newb from LW. Got Vertice Info question.

#1

Hi,
In LW, I use the point info panel alot to get particular XYZ coordinates from one point to apply to another. This is great, especially on mechanical type items, to make sure points are exactly how you want them to be in XYZ. In LW, you are also able to highlight/copy the text of your X,Y or Z coordinate and paste it to the point that you want to apply it to.

In MODO, I have not found a way to do this. I have found my point info providing me my XYZ. It is not able to be highlighted and copied, so if I can find where to enter this, I will have to manually type the coordinate in again.

I thought it would be the 'Set Position" command, but this does not put the point where I would think it would go. The value entered for X,Y or Z here seems to be something not related to my grid size or my existing points or anything that I can figure out.

I also tried this in the move window where you can enter XYZ coordinates. Here I have to take the current point numerical coordinate value and subtract it from the numerical value I want it to match. This gives me the value to enter. A faster way is to set the point at ‘0’ on X,Y or Z and then just type in the value I want it to be. This causes problems as well in that, the info panel only displays the numerical coordinate value 2 decimal place or rounds it when I need it to be exact.

The ‘Set value’ in Lightwave is Geometry -> Vertex -> Set position in Modo.
As for the info panel, you have the same in Modo… simply click on the value to edit/copy

The ripper.

Thanks for the reply Ripper, but it does not work.
Here are my steps:

Here is the final step. After entering the value, or cutting it and pasting it from step one, it changes to something totally different and freaks out.
This same thing happens when I use the “set position” command under vertex.

Also the clicking and copying thing takes 3 fast clicks rather than two which is the norm. Weird.

This is annoying me.

I had the same feature request; the Info panel in modo doesn’t have all of the functionality that the Info dialog in Modeler has. I use that feature a lot in working with architectual type projects in Modeler. I also miss the sliding values…you can select a whole mass of points and change their value interactively along one axis.

Modo almost has it right, but there is no way to easily make say, the Y value of three points the same in that interface. Also, it’s hard to enter a value in the info form because it’s picky about how you double click on values to change them.

From what I tested I works pretty mugh the same as in LW.
nessjp: Your result probably comes from the fact that you set the value of only one vertex of your selection.

As for editing, you have the mouse cursor which first highlight the vertex position, you then click once to select it and finally one more time to edit it.

The ripper.

Works for me also. The only reason why a point might fly off into space is, if you enter a new value say, 55, it’ll default to 55 m(not cm,which is by default).

Anyone know how to flatten a group of points, to a set world value of say, 50 on the X axis?

You can do it manually with a gorup of points with the Set Position command, but I miss being able to do it interactively with the sliders like Modeler’s info dialog does.

#9

Good start, it works. But i wish there was a Flatten command, that lets you flatten multiple components, base on X,Y,Z, element, 4 points selection all interactivity like in Mirai. I use it often enough that i miss it.

From what I understand from Luxology, the more compicated forms like the Info & Statistics can’t be edited via Form Editor in this current release, but possibly in the future some enterprising user could script a more feature-laden Info panel.
