Another Eye to give advice

#1

Rebecca, If this is not the sort of thing i am supposed to put here please feel free to move me to the WIP 2d art section.

Heya, i am doing a painting since i have been inspired by the work of Robert Mcginins ( james bond illustrations). Well my initial sketch on paper i thought my anotomy was correct, or with in the realm of coorectness. It could be considered an ideal, but can i have some tips on the anatomy of my girl? This is mainly considering the body, proportions of the body, how she is standing, and controposto, all that with especial attention to the hips since they seem to be weakest point. Another thing that I tend to do (and not notice) is to make my bodies to big near the feet, and have the figure getting smaller and smaller untill the head. I have looked at the drawing too long and I feel that I need another eye. So any crits or comments would be absolutley awsome.

Hello. I hope you don’t mind a paint-over? I’m not very good with words when it comes to explaining so I thought it’d be easier if I showed you… (I’m no expert but I’ll offer my two cents)

What I did was look up some references (I’ve posted one below). I did a red line by looking at these references. You said that you wanted an “ideal” girl, so I didn’t correct her legs (which are too long - but again - it’s a common idealisation) and I tried to keep the slim look you had, while making her more realistic. You are right - her shoulders and ribcage were far too small for her height, and her head was a tad too small too. You’ll see I put her legs together - controposto is when you shift your weight to one leg, and your upper body tilts in the other direction (I’ve tried to ilustrate that with the red lines) If your legs are spred out like hers were, you can’t shift your weight to one leg.

reference:

I hope you found that useful! Generally you should find some reference material to work from - eventually you’ll know a lot of things by heart but you’ll still often need to check poses and anatomy.
