Another 3D Portrait/What would you improve?

#1

I will be applying for jobs soon, and it is time for a little reality check and hopefully with you guy’s help and generosity I will be able to do just that! I need you! :bounce: This is a portrait that I posted last year, and I’d like to have your opinion on it.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Do not sugar coat it please, if you like it, say so, if you don’t, say so as well, and tell me why in both cases, try to be as detailed as possible please. Looking forward to what you have to say, and do not hesitate to critique even if you are a beginner, drop a line or two, all opinions hold value to my eyes, thank YOU so much!

PS: If you click on my Folio you can see a large version.

Portrait looks good. Very good in my opinion
I think the background is a bit distracting, maybe you could blur it a bit and åt the same time achive a bit more depth. Maybe the skin shader could be improved a bit his face looks a bit matte, think it could use som more gloss. Not sure though never really done any skin shaders.

Best of luck to you with your upcoming job hunt!

Thanks a lot Elgstrom! Great feedback, you are absolutely right about the matte skin finish, it’s a side effect of the overexposure I performed in Post. I backed it off just now. Since I did not render a specular pass separately my ability to improve the gloss is quite limited. Is that what you had in mind?

For now, I backed off the exposure in the final comp and gained back some of those highlights. I also backed off the background, I tried blurring it out but it doesn’t fit with the wide angle camera used to shoot the face. I darkened the background quite a bit though and it definitely helps. What do you think?
