Animation Short: Don't mess with the weather.

#1

OK. So you’re a 4-limb… thing… enjoying a sunbath. Then weather kicks in. What to do? Can we avoid the weather? Or influence it? Will our hero survive to sunbath the day?

See it in this comical short of 1 minute. Disclaimer; may be shocking. http://www.alanthorn.net/silly.wmv

[font=Verdana][color=white]Tell me what you think. This animation was made in 2 hours as a ‘short-fast’ project. It’s not the graphics that count, but the character. Cheers.

Erm well i can understand how annoying it is to not get a response so here i goes. Theres alot of things you should work on : -

  1. Camera angle and framing, its fine to have just one stationary shot throughout but make sure its a good one and try to keep things that arent necessary in the shot out of the shot until their needed, e.g he walks off shot to get the gun.

  2. Pacing, A short is called a short for a reason, make everything count, dont just show motion for the sake of it. The start is kinda confusing as to what its doing, it shuffles around for apparently no reason at all.

  3. Animation (The Biggie) It seems you havent been taught or learnt the laws/guidelines to animation, i suggest that if this is what you want to concentrate on, get out there and learn it. Either through education or get ureself a good book. I’d suggest “The Animation Survival Kit” or “Timing for animation”.

I may be wrong in thinking that this is your first time using anything 3d but im guessing the reason you have not got any replies is due to the fact that most people dont have the time to highlight all the areas you must improve. My advice for you is to leave CGtalk for a while (in terms of submitting work) go out and chose a few specific areas that you want to learn and get good at them. Come back when your shorts reflect areas of strength rather than a mishmash of knowledge and i will be happy to crit again.
