animating geometry change

#1

say I want to animate my process of modeling. so I want the animation to start as a box, and animate itself turning into a face that I fully modeled. how would I go about that?
is there a way maybe to not delete history and then animate back through the history? or:
preferably I’d like this to be possible (dont know if it is).
I take a fully modeled face mesh. and then create a new cube. and tell maya to animate a transition between the two. can maya do that?

The only solution i know of is stop motion animation where you take many “many” pictures during the modeling process then put them together in a video. witch could actually be really cool.

Dose anyone else have any ideas?

If you actually want it to show every step of your modeling as opposed to just morphing between a cube and the finished face you would have to take screenshots during the modeling process and put them together.

For simply morphing between a cube and the face I suppose this could work:

Duplicate the finished face mesh. On the copy, select vertices on one side of the face and scale them flat in one direction. Keep doing that until you end up with a box. Use the box as a blend shape and you should be able to make a smooth transition between the two. I have never tried this but if it works it could be messy. But it shouldn’t take too long, so it won’t hurt to try.
