Johan, that’s not my brother!! I wrote that it’s a study after Andrew Jones and there’s no possible way he could’ve drawn my brother, haha. That’s Marko Djurdjevic, another amazing artist. My brother is pretty ordinary looking. You know, no mohawks, pierciengs in the nose, beard and stuff. Maybe that is the problem, he doesn’t have any characteristics that would show it is him.
About the poses, I don’t know really how I come up with them. It was harder when I just started doing those. I just don’t think of those cool poses and stuff. I’m not hoping to make a finished painting of every each one of the gestures so the pose must be good looking and stuff, any pose does the job for me in this case. It just works out, I draw a guy with a gun and the some more variations come to my head of the same guy with a gun.
Thanks for stopping by mate

Ok, I wasted several more hours trying to draw my brother, no luck. So I erased it and did another study after Andrew Jones, with markers! Didn’t take me 10min.

Now I can’t stay up late because school’s tomorrow, damn it…But I’m taking my sketchbook there, will hopefully scribble something.

I love the “after andrew jones” sketch. Crazy lines !

#723

Razz, you give me inspiration! Great sketches. I am really impressed with your muscle drawings of hands and feet!

#724

Hey Razz, great stuff man. I like your new gestures, especially 80 very dynamic

The study from photo ref is really nice too. He feels very solid. Nice variation of line. Are you going to do more of these?

The Andrew Jones portrait is sweet, why don’t you do more self portraits? You could use the style of Andrew’s drawings but make it your own.

#725

Serena, thanks! Glad you like it. It was fun to try out something new with a pencil, hehe.

Samanthie, thanks! Always good to inspire someone  Because I know how good it feels to be inspired. Ahh, the muscle drawings, so technique-y, much more fun to use the knowledge gained from those.

Joel, thank you! If you’re refering to the portrait as that photo study, than it is not. It is a study after the artist Andrew Jones and it’s Marko Djurdjevic drawn there, also an amazing artist. The ones with markers is Andrew Jones himself but it is a study after him too, haha.
Just want to make things straight so that nobody would be mistaken, you know, sorry for all the speaking.
I am inspired to do self portraits using some of his styles, maybe even creating my own ones, I just need to find the time for that. The school started = much less time.

Here’s something similar to that Joel. It’s a portrait of my brother using one of Android’s self-portraits as a style ref. Early steps, just to get the overall look. I will work on this much more.

Two days, two updates. I wish I could keep going further on like that.

FateBringer, thanks! The eyes are very important here, because with this style chosen the eyes, nose and the overall silhouette are the only parts which have to show that this is my brother, maybe the hair too but I don’t know how I will paint them yet.

Rasmus, thank you! I find it hard to find time for both, 2d and 3d. But it’s real fun to do both and see how one helps to get better at the other.

Update on the portrait. Still lots of work to do. Any crits are welcome of how I could improve the piece.

I’m going to the art school now to, hopefully, learn a few new things about composition :stuck_out_tongue:

#729

Hi razz,
I have less time sorry, good work on the last pieces, better comments will come later.

What you think about us two following andrew jones… not doing 1000selpotraits, but what about one week (or month?) of selpotraits? Starting tomorrow? The only assignment is to do one selfpotrait everyday and each one should be different. This means don’t do one pose the same time with the same colors and the same sort of brush strokes… just to do something different every day ? You can use whatever you want, you can also work with your pencil.

Tell me what you think of it. I’ll start tomorrow with a self-potrtait, I hope you are going to join me

Thomas

#730

Ya know… I don’t think you should take it any further… think it’s good just the way it is right now

#731

I really like his nose!  Nice work!

And incredible sketches in #706 and #715! Amazing stuff

#732

Thomas, thanks, interesting idea you have here. Of course I agree, but I am not sure if I’ll be able to do a self-portrait a day, because there’s so many other stuff I want to draw or paint, staying with only self-portraits doesn’t seem like the best idea, I want variety. I will try though, will help me build up speed and explore many styles. One question now, where’s your self-portrait for today?!

Johan, oh come on! One of the very few paintings that I want ti push a little further than a speedpaint and you’re telling me to stop. If you say it looks good this way already I just hope that I won’t make it worse by adding more detail. Thanks for sharing your opinion!

Bapke, thank you! Great, you like it and I will still work on it. I guess I did get a bit better if you like it before I’ve even finished the piece. Hopefully you’ll love it at the end

Now todays self-portrait. Not really happy how this turned out but I will show it anyway.

#733

Hm… you look kinda… mad

It’s up to you to take your paintings as far as you think they should Razz. Don’t let anyone tell you a work is finished when you think it’s not and vice versa (especially not meh  )

Personally, I’ve been noticing things don’t have to be perfect to the millimeter to be beautiful…

#734

HEY …RAZZ …

Looks like all of that studying is paying off…takes alot of beforhand knowlage to pull it off correctly as you have done in that last piece posted…your self portrait…GREAT PIECE OF EXPRSSIONISM…FULL OF ENERGY, AND ACCURACY …POWERFUL:applause:
Keep going RAZZ…REALLY A GREAT PLEASURE SEEING YOUR DEVELOPEMENT HAPPEN…FOR ME ANYWAY…
TAKE CARE
Glenn

OMG the last two are truly creepy! Especially the last one - thank goodness I opened it in the morning
they made me think of Stephen King - have you been reeding lately perchance?

Hey razz,
GREAT to see you have done your sp  I am a little stressed these days… My father’s 50birthday is next week and he is planning a big party … I have to do some work here at home … carrying some cupboards and stuff. So we have to finish the renovation before his birthday

Of yourse I did my SP I’ll psot it soon but I thought doing my potraits late at the day … is better so I can work with my experience and thoughts of the day for my SP. Sorry I’ll have to post my one later I still have a lot to do here. So I’ll post the one from yesterday and today, today’s evening or tomorrow… can’t promise. Hope you don’t mind…

You have done a very nice potrait, you are looking very evil  How long have you worked on this? I am trying to keep my selfpotraits at 1-2hours so I can draw other stuff also. You should try to do some quick ones lso, maybe it might be interresting to leave some parts of your potraits unfinished? By the way, you can also do some quick pencil line work in 10minutes if you have not a lot of time

Great to see you joined my idea
Keep it up, I’ll do one with acryl today … will be a little more compley then my one from yesterday (quick pencil stuff crap ^^)

Thomas

#737

HI, these last portraits look really good, hope to see more, cheers.

#738

Johan, thank you. I didn’t take it that you meant that it’s finished, I though you just mean that it looks good that way and it won’t be a disaster if I stop right there, without extra details and stuff. I appreciate the crits and comments, so please do say your opinion, I am interesting in hearing it. Thanks again, mate

Glenn, thanks! The sketch for it was done extremely fast, totaly not how I usualy draw, hehe. But it was fun, trying new stuff is fun. And yeah, all those studies I did do help, that’s for sure. Always good to see you drop by!

Magdalena, hehe, thanks I guess  It wasn’t intentional, the creepy looks in those two, just came out naturaly, I wasn’t thinking of that at all. And no, I don’t even like Stephen King’s books, I don’t find anything scary in them  I like Asian horror more, like Dark Water and The Ring books by Koji Suzuki. But as I remember you’re not a fan of horror stuff, mm?

Thomas, ok, great. Whenever you have time. I had a rough day today, had lots of work to do. The first week at school and I’m half dead. My sps won’t take longer than 2 hours too, unless I’ll want to detail one some more. And it keeps me painting, not just drawing, which is another great thing.

Voraz, thanks. You will see more, as I will be trying to do one SP a day

Todays self-portrait. Nothing else. Didn’t have time left to draw/paint any other stuff, meh…

#739

Sorry, didn’t read that. Android inspired, rigth?
cheers

#740

Hey razz,
you like this dark eyes right?
Thias last SP from yesterday looks like you are in ice or so… it feels cold

I think we are going the right way on keeping our sp’s not longer then 2 hours. Of course we should take more time if we think it is necessary  I hope your are doing well at school? Let’s see where our art leads us today, into the brightest highs or the darkest deeps? Oo (what the hell am I talking :D) I have no idea of my sp for today … but the day has not ended so we’ll see
