Anatomy Thread of razz - 2D/3D

Great choice Razz

the Sater in the back… his chin should be more protruding… he is drinking stuff he doesn’t want to spill

the ref picture is too dark, might want to try to find another one.
in original the skin textures are more human

sorry short msg, saving my left hand for drawing…

#502

Johan, actually he is spilling some of the stuff he’s drinking and yes, the chin should be a little more protruding. Nah, the ref is good, I like the contrast, hehe. Working this way is real fun. I can’t wait now to when I’ll be adding color to it, but first I gotta make a wonderful value piece. And I’m doing the underpainting without desaturating the ref, just more fun that way  Watch your hand there, mate.

Study after Dan Milligan. After all those asian horror movies I’ve seen lately I just had to do a study of something creepy.

#503

Hey Razz!!! Thanks very much for your kind words in my thread!

Gread stuff as always! Love your pencil works! And yay seems like we’re going for the same master copy in the OFDW21  I’m doing it in 3d though… look forward to your progress for sure:bounce:

#504

Heya razz, thanks for all the support in my SB too  - really appreciate it, and as usual, your hard work pushes me and inspires me to push myself further. I really like that you are taking all different approaches to your work and experimenting with different styles. I think at some point you might try an ambitious piece with multiple characters / figures - I’ve no doubt that you could pull it off.

Looking forward to more.

Intervain, I was excited to see you doing that piece in 3d. My decision on it was because of the attention I could give to those few characters, all the detail and stuff, that’s why no crowd painting for me in this OFDW (it rhymes! oh wait, maybe it doesn’t…well, who cares). I’ll be lurking in your thread, as I’ve been all this time, I see every page of it :bounce: so just keep doing, I got my eyes on you (doesn’t that sound aggressive? It shouldn’t). Thanks for dropping by!

Rebecca! Thanks goes to you  Yeah, I got to find my own style, but I’m more or less trying to approach just as I would with real paints, despite the OFDW piece, when I’m just enjoying the digital advantages, hehe. Would love to give a painterly feel to my digital paintings. Speaking about a piece with multiple characters, I finally got ready to do a pretty big master study with real paints. It will be after Frazetta, a piece with multiple characters, wish me luck! Primed three boards today, all ready to be painted on. The biggest one (about 60x70cm) will be for the study, other two, slightly smaller, just for some other studies or I don’t know for what. Hopefully I’ll have something to show at least until the end of this week. Have to work on the OFDW too, don’t I? :bounce:

So, I have more work done on the OFDW piece, but I’ll post an update when I’ll have more work done on it, haha. Been doodling these days of course, doing little studies, imaginational work, maybe I’ll show some together with the OFDW piece update. Tomorrow, hopefully!!

#506

Can’t wait to see your OFDW piece develop. That portrait of the satyr really caught my eye when I saw the brief. Very excited to see where you go with it. Great thread Razz, very inspiring!

#507

Hey Razz! great start on the OFDW piece!:bounce:

#508

Thank you, kSeth and Anand! Appreciate you stopping by my thread :bounce:

Here’s and update on the OFDW piece. Still loads of corrections to do until I could go into detailing. Working really big this time (at least for me), the size is 4000x5293 and if I could make it as detailed as the original, I’ll be more than happy. Time to create a really finished looking piece. So the wip:

#509

whoa

great depth!

I got my eyes on you

haha that Satyr is already using his powers on you

nice work my friend, keep going!

#510

Hey Razz! awesome progress, dude!! I bet this is going to be a delightful piece!:bounce: Nice to see your method.

#511

Hey guys! Thank you both for encouragement!

Johan, haha, you might just be right  His expression is enigmatic. Will make it look better as I go along hopefully!

Anand, it’s the first time I’m painting like this. In monochrome first, I mean. We’ll see how the colorisation process will go, but lots and lots of work left before that. Maybe my OFDW20 piece will become the BEFORE piece compared to this one when it’s done, haha! Just kiddin’, of course

Had trouble connecting to the forum today. Always got the message that the server is too busy, count 30 secs and refresh, blah blah, but after that the message would pop out. I wanted to go and see what others were creating these days. Tomorrow then.

Update on the OFDW21 piece. Worked on the main satyr today. Still pretty loose. I’m working on it!

#512

Just stoped to tell everyone that there won’t be any updates because of the work. But I’ll go full speed after it’s finished :scream: So for this week I’ll just be watching others create. Oh wait, I may scan the crappy imaginational stuff and other little sketches I have done. We’ll see.

Best wishes to you all.

#513

Hey razz your Rubens study is going great!

I had the same issues with the forum website (too busy etc) but somehow the problem was gone once I updated my Firefox browser to the latest version. Prolly just coincidence though coz I view cgtalk at work with ie6 and had it their as well…

Hi razz, love how your OFDW21 piece is going! Hope your work demands die down soon so you can get back to it

I’ve also had problems with the forum, its too busy at night and undergoing repairs during the day. I can only seem to get on at around 2am!

#515

hey razz!

-your last drawings are absolutely beautyful.
looks like you’ve adapted the “value” method nicely on the ofdw piece.
looking forward to more.

I love B&W and when I see a b&W piece done in a great way I’m happy 2 times.
Always excellent works here.

#517

Aah, got some free time today to paint. Well, actually it’s almost 3 at night, but I had an almost free day after school.

Johan, now the problem seems to have gone, browsing with almost no problem, only loads up slowly, but that’s happening only today and that’s the fault of my internet connection. Happy you like my OFDW piece. It seems the more I work on it, the more work is left. But waiting until I’ll get to those very tiny details

Aviva, hehe, as you see, I’ve found some time to paint, but the work took all the week, now what’s left is only work for my pc, I mean rendering. Unless the client will want something changed. Ah, ok, but not much work left for myself. Mmm, wanted to get back to the Rubens study all week. Hate it when the work stuff takes so much time, but that’s how I get the money to buy art stuff, so it is how it is.

Abyss, oh, we’ll se about that when I’ll start adding color. Long way to go. Trying to use full value scale, but avoiding pure black, even though there are very dark valus in the painting. Just a habit I think, not to use pure black anywhere.

CyborgJA, happy to make you happy two times  I hope this Rubens study will be something I could be really proud of. Glad you like the start of it.

So, few more hours on this one. Tomorrow I’ll post some sketches I’ve managed to do in this week, not much, but still something. Missed those hours and hours of drawing and painting so much!!

#518

Looking great so far!

#519

This might drive you nuts, but I may animate the guy. Although he is being put in the backburner for now.

#520

Womball, no, it won’t drive me nuts. But I do think that it would be much better to animate a skeletal model with muscles on it. You know, to get the understanding how the muscles work, what’s their action and stuff. Now as you have only the interior look of it, I assume your goal will be to learn rigging and stuff, no? At least for anatomy learning, that’s not what I would do. So what’s next in your plans if you’re putting that guy aside for now? The character you were talking about in your thread? Would love to see that

Some imaginational, some with photo reference, some studies from various artists. All is in here. Imaginational is the most crapiest ones, you’ll recognise, and there’s not much of them.

Now what I thought I’ll stop doing is, I’ll stop doing studies from drawings. Because it’s easier than to do studies from paintings or photos. I want to see the contour and lines myself. I find it very different when doing a study from a painting or from a drawing. So, hope it’s clear and I’m not making a mistake by doing that.
