Anatomy Thread of Gunilla - 3D

No problem, and this is very cool looking! Not being an inner ear expert, hehe, I can’t really critique the accuracy, but I would wager that there are only a few laymen who can  - here are some more ref’s if you still need them:

Sabie - thanks, I’m fully recovered by now. University library is a good idea - but I’m not sure ut helps in this case. I’ve found zillions of refs and they are all from almost the same angle… Another problem when it comes to medical, internal anatomy refs is that the scales differs so much. Usually images are made to show the function rather than the exact anatomy. In this case most images seems to exaggerate the size of the hearing bones to make them more distinguish. Also I have a feeling that the angles of the elements are “lined up” to show things as clear as possible
Do you do a lot of medical tasks?

Steph - A modeling person?! Well, not yet but may become - I like it better for each try. Much thanks to all splendid support I get

Beckie - Thanks! Grey’s anatomy - really nice illustrations. Me likes

So, I think this is is for the basic modeling, scene. I will probably bring in the backdrop in ZB for adding bone pieces and other gore.

Have a great weekend and thanks for your interest.

Cool! More updates  Excellent to see the ear coming together like that. Looks like all it needs is some loud music and things will start vibrating. I’m comparing it with an illustration in one of my reference books at the moment and it all looks good. Keep up the great work!

#644

Looking great Gunie! Looks like you’ve worked things out just fine despite a lack of great reference - very cool stuff!

#645

Aaahh … now it looks just great !
I really see now what thing is going on … and it’s gonna be great for sure …

Can’t wait to see more …

Hey… monrning Gunie…

Do You Hear Me ?

#648

LOL:D

Morning Gunie and the team!

Yes, things are coming together now with the last update, looks pretty solid to me:thumbsup: !
I’ve usually no anatomy related things, more the technical or abstract science stuff - but also for this I feel sometimes the need to have more specific information than the web provides. Especially for your project I thought of computed tomography or magnetic resonance pictures of the skull, also good for measuring the real dimensions of the interesting parts:wise: …but this may be way to much effort for a personal project and of course you’re doing already very well with your existing references. So I’m just waiting to see more of this fascinating journey:) .

Have a good start in the week!

Mark - thanks! And yes, some loud music will be added later - the plan is to animate soundwaves being transferred and understood by the system. Not sure how I’m going to show the understanding part though

Beckie - thanks! And I hope I have - I willtry to find a volounteering doctor to check things later before starting to animate it.

Steph
- thank you for w00ting, this particular ear like the sound of w00t especially much

Lolo - aah, thanks! That is most helpful

Gilles - haha!I can hear you but I can’t see you very well! :D

Sabie - MR imagery of the skull is a great idea! I see if I can dig some up later today. I’m taking an evening class at med school right now. The class is in basic Physiology, really interesting! We have lectures each Monday night so a visit to the library there will fit the plan nicely. Thanks for the good idea!
Do you have any of your Science stuff online? It would be really nice seeing some.

Wow! That’s mighty impressive. I’ve been thinking and the only other artist I can remember who did ear work was Vincent Van Gogh but that’s not the kind of ear work I would recommend. Your approach is much better

#651

“Ambitious artist in desperate search for reference”?
Don’t think I’m going to get that far. Still have some questions for some areas but I don’t think they will be visible so I leave it for now.

And a close up

The backdrop is not final since I haven’t decided what way I want to bring it. I’m also going to add some particles and stuff later. Let me know what you think.

Superb update Gunilla! The colours look beautiful and very strong. I think I can see what you mean about the background. In its current form it contrasts beautifully and seems to bring the ear and inner ear structures forward so that they are beautifully defined, but the deep red background does seem to suggest a muscle-tissue structure which is not accurate. Since the background would really only be a flat 2D cross-section surface then perhaps it does not require modeling. You could do it quickly in Photoshop. But whatever you choose to do, I hope you stay with something like the colours you have now because they look fantastic.

#653

Gunie, that looks beautiful so far. The only thing I can find to critique, aesthetically speaking, is that the auditory tube? looks to have almost no depth - other than that, things are looking great!

#654

Morning Gunie!

Great progress here with your ear project and the textured version looks really good - the details are coming out nicely:thumbsup: !

That’s interesting indeed, especially with your focus on this kind of visualisation and I admire your ambition to have a more insight look…I’m often too lazy to dig deeper in certain projects:blush: .

I never even thought to put this online, the stuff is certainly as thrilling as a chemistry book:scream: , the things on your website have much more visual impact for me…but I look if I can find something more interesting in older files.

And now I’m really curious to see how you animate the hearing process…Do you know this BBC-site, there’s a nice schematic overview…

Nice day for you!

#655

Love the ear. Especially the outerpart, great material too.

#656

Mark - exactly! - those where my thoughts too. I will try and make a combination of crossection and simple geometry and still try to keep it from interfering to much with the foreground parts. I could use more specified lighting to dim the background parts. Thanks for the input!

Beckie - Another good observation, thanks! Also that link shows a good scale relationship. I think my guesses where quite accurate but it’s good to have it comfirmed

Sabie - well, I’m usually quite lazy too. But recently I’ve discovered, that the more I know about the underlying functions the more I can bring in a project at an early stage (leading to more fun for me when doing the work!) It has already proven useful, Mondays lecture was on the cell and its functions and yesterday I got an assignment of making some illustrations covering exactly that! It felt soo good to be able to understand the topic right away and to be able to suggest possible visual solutions
Yes, please go didding in your old files - it’s really interesting to see how others solve things!

As for the animation, Our Lolo has made such a good one - I’m sure I will be heavily inspired by that when deciding on the storyline.

Nathan - thank you! I’ve tried a slightly different approach for the texturing here, using visible brush strokes for both coloring and normal mapping. I think it works quite well and perhaps I make it less subtle for the next update.

Busy with other stuff today but always happy for your visits here, have a great day!

How great !!

The flesh texture is really beautiful (as long as it’s still human flesh) …
The point of view is great to understand the mechanism you’re illustrating .
Can’t wait to see it vibrating with a heavy loud music …

So w00t …

chears ,

#658

Steph - thanks! … and can’t wait to see it animated either  W000t!

I’ve reaplaced the backdrop with something a bit more realsitic… not as pretty as the previous perhaps, but it’s a start.
Let me know what you think… better?

And the close up…

#659

Of course it’s more realistic like that, but as you imagine, the previous was more attractive… maybe you could keep the latest while modifying a little the tones to have something more like the first ? :wise:

#660

Hmm, I agree that I liked the previous background much better…there is something a little smeary looking about the present one, and it seems not to integrate as much with the foreground, or perhaps it’s not distinct enough tonally as Lolo suggested to show off the main attraction / the foreground - just mho.
