I like your painting of Betty, Abbey. Her right hand looks funny to me and I think one of the problems is the detailng you did on her palm. It looks like a finger sticking out in an awkward fashion. How come you don’t like the angle of her face?
Anatomy Thread of Auria
rangerman - thanks for the comments on the hands, i know they’re kinda funky
the angle on the face was extremely difficult to paint, esspecially her nose. its just, an odd angle. not quite straight on and tilted up. a very foriegn angle for me to paint.
dhame - thanks!!
This is a painting of my own i started a while ago. no refs, i couldnt tell you how many hours, a lot lol.
still a WIP, last touched aug 19.

Hi Auria, I agree with the others great Bernini study, those hands! The Bettie Page portrait looks like her to me. I like the lady in blue. I think that the highlight on her shoulder is a just a little distracting. Maybe just a little more blending there. Good work Auria!
Hi Abbey,
very nice work on this last piece … I am looking forward where you are going to push it … at the moment I would say ive the hair some more nice reflections
Keep it up!
Thomas
I like your betty picture! but yeah the hands look a bit funny, the tones are really good :>.
Also I love the skintone on your last picture, hehe update!:bounce:
Hi Abbey,
tnx a lot for stopping by @ my thread
Your Bernini study is wonderfull, the hands and skin are great. Betty also looks great
keep it up!! (more more! :D)
Hi
nice start on that painting
the back of that dress is bothering me… contrast is way too high there…
it would be a good idea to think about and setup your light source(s) at this stage.
remember that the viewer’s eyes are always lead towards the points of high contrast.
also,
see if you can make her appearance as a female more striking… maybe show more of the round forms of her buttox (not being a perv here but I think it could boost up the sensuality meter if done right)
also,
her left arm… what is she doing with it? I think you want to tell us a story but it is not quite clear to me what exactly yet. You could make her hold something or otherwise pose the hand in a really elegant way…
just some suggestions to get you going (I sense you may feel a bit stuck here, hope it helps)
If you want inspiration on lighting… check out the thread of Stahlberg in the tutorials forum where he does paintovers…
here’s the link:

good luck! this piece has potential!!
Hey Abbey!
The last piece is looking good…more values will give it clearer look maybe…
looking forward to its completion…

sorry about the lack of updates, been doing some major site remodeling lately and its taking up a lot of time. also, redid the sculpture i was working on. started anew so ill get a picture of that up as well.
my next goal is to work on traditional anatomy sketches, really work on form with hands/feet/faces esspecially.
right now working on something for my friends bands site, its just a straight up painting of the basist from ref.
this is what i have so far.

Samanthie thank you for the suggestion about her shoulder! ill fix that right away :)!!
Trunks thank you :)! ill add those in asap ^^
vincerecaos, elnaz, gisaiagami thank you guys a lot ^^!
NR43 Thank you very very much for your suggestions. the original intent with the hand was merely to hold the dress but i know it needs more, and im glad you said that because now its spinning with ideas. the back of the dress is still under construction so i could see why the contrast would be high. i do have an overall light source but the piece has a while to go, i do like the idea of the highest contrast being the point of interest… i always knew that, but i dont think ive really applied it… definatley something to work on! ^^ thanks again.
rdsarna i so suck at values, thank you very much. im gonna straight up just butcher this thing to see how it looks with values. not permanently, but i think i need to attack it on a different layer even to get a feel of really what depth in value could look like O_o
devil-inside lol blush thank you ^^
wow
at first glance this looks like a picture to me!
ofcourse it needs work but I can imagine your friend will be very pleased when it’s finished
Can we have a look at your website? Would be great I love browsing artist websites…
Hi …Abbey …
Just stopping by to see what you’ve been up to .
What medium is that base player painted in, is it oils…just curious
Anyway, it looks GREAT…:applause:I LIKE THE LUMINIOUS LIGHTING ON HIS FORARMS…Nice color harmony throughout the whole painting ![]()
I really like the …X…composition of that one…![]()
Be carefull about going directly into the corners with your compositions, Be like a boxer,…stay out of the corners of the ring,…you can get into alot of trouble and be pinned in them, if you are not carefull…
But it looks like you pulled it off in this one, …that shiney spot on the neck of the guatar saves it, and keeps me from going right out of the painting from the start of the journy into it…NICE TOUCH …
Anyway, a real pleasure seeing your works, and progress…![]()
HAVE A GREAT ONE…![]()
TAKE CARE

very nice sketchbook and very nice work, especially the guitar-player. great colors and good anatomy.
are you planning on giving it an artistic twist? or are you going for photorealism?
Hey Abbey!
NAH! you don’t suck at values and the latest painting shows that you’re pretty good with them…keep going…love the last piece…so REAL!
Ratul
NR43 - thanks :)!!! but my website atm hasnt been updated in about 2 years… so its not the best place to go for my recent stuff, but ill make sure when i get everything together, ill give a link. im changing the .com anyway
spiritdreamer - so much thanks again ^^ avoid the corners noted!! lol. its just a computer painting, done in photoshop.
aggie - thank you!!
cyanid - thanks! but that particular picture was done as a study. lighting and colors in particular. keeping photo realism. artistic touches are left for my personal works. ^^
ratul - haha i DO suck at values, in personal pieces. i still have a lot of work to do, but i appreciate that lol. thank you ^^
Hi Abbey!
Your last painting is really beautiful. Looking forward to updates on it…
