Hi Anand, just had to mention the hair…WOW!! Also I agree with Vincent…she does seem serene almost in a spiritual way…as if she knows something and it is giving her a sense of peace…ok now I’m getting weird.hehe Great work!

#503

Hey Vincent!..thanks a lot…
You must be zooming the canvas…!.. You should zoom(scale) the tool instead… that is, the canvas should be at actual resolution when you do your screen grab… or, if you want ant-aliasing as well, make the canvas double size, draw and position your tool and hit “AAHalf Size” (cntrl+0).

Hey Abbey!! thanks, dude!

Hey Serena! thanks!!

Hey Johan!! thanks!.. hope you are doing well.

Hi Amrinder!! thanks!

Hey Ratul!! hahaha!! thanks!

Hey Debbie!! thanks a lot! I am glad you think there is some “feel” in it!!

Here is the progress… Gave her a “sari” to wear…
I know her hand and arm look young atm… Hoping to age them as I add detail…
see you later!

:surprised wow! there is something very special about this old lady… i am really getting a feeling that she actually lives in a village nearby… the facial expression, gesture… even the way she is holding the saree, everything is just sooo perfect…

#506

hey anand…thats lady is looking amazing!!!..i really liked the gesture of holding the ‘saree’, very traditional indian way besides the skin details and all!!!..

keep that up…

#507

read next post please…

Oh wow ! This is getting better and better !! Initially i thought you were just gonna model the head ! which was awesome !! then came the hair ! which was oh so cool!! and now the torso and sari !! Amazing !

I have to tell you people ! PG here has inspired me to start drawing !!! yes i actually wake up in the morning and do figure drawing now ! Though my figure drawings look like some wierd form of alien-human breed, i come to work and see an update from you and feel inspired.

Please do not misunderstand ! I am in no way comparing your work to my drawings ! The dedication and passion that you show PG, are what makes me want to keep trying ! Because i know, that one day i will actually be able to draw ! And that day the world will acknowledge my artisitic talents and will bow down before me !! He ha ha ha ha haaaaaaa !!!

Wait a minute… this is not the “world domination through the mastery of figure drawings” thread is it ??

Oh damn !! ok… back to the topic… the decidication and passion… blah blah… .blah blah… ah yes… …one day i will actually be able to draw ! With you as my guide and master i know i can do it ! There’s just one thing i must ask of you now PG… Will you be my Guru ? :wise:

#509

Hey Glenn! thanks!

thanks, Nitin…

thanks, Dhruba.

Jacob! you do write well, dude! thanks a lot… Since you have started drawing, I recommend you start a sketch book thread here… its very rewarding… you will get lots of good advice and critiques… and inspiration!

so here is what… I got bored looking at her standing straight like a bolt… so thought of experimenting with a few poses/expressions before i work further on her hands and the saari…

pose 1

pose 2

actually I like the first one better she looks weak in the second one.

here is a bit about my process… I love the transpose tool in ZB, but I couldnt figure out how to apply the same transpose to different subtools…tried recording a macro, but got nowhere… I couldnt find out how to replay the macro I recorded!! So… I exported the head, hair, eyes etc (at subdiv level 0) to good ol’ Maya (pardon, Magda!!:D), where I could apply a cluster to the head and paint away the weights down the neck(cool, huh?) then parent the hair and eyes to the cluster… thus, however I rotate the cluster, the hair and eyes follow, and since i painted the cluster weights on the neck, I get a real smooth transformation!!.. Maya rules!! Then I exported everything back as objs.

so, then… back in ZB, for each subtool, I go down to level 0, create a new layer in layer sub-palette, and import the new obj. By layering I can always go back to original pose…and for new poses, I just have to create new layers before importing… thus I can have many different poses saved in the same tool!

haha! its cool to see her in maya so low poly! maya is really the only 3d modeling program im familiar with so its cool to see a familiar territory. thats awesome that it worked out so well. the emotions look great. she looks so tired, so sad… she looks really wise in one of the angles. she keeps getting better!

#511

Oh well, I’ve not understood what you did in Maya (maybe cause I don’t know this sw :wise:) but I’m TOTALLY IN LOVE with pose 1, pict 4.

I LOVE IT !

Yes, the hand looks a little bit long in the metacarpus area, but it enhances her elegance, so if you like to underline this concept, leave it as it is.

Exceptional work man ! (More than usual and that tells everything! )

#512

Oh yes, Maya rules, everyone knows that, only some don’t want to admit that, mwahahaha. I’m stunned after seeing this sculpture, Anand. It is just soo awesome! Maybe just the top eyelid goes too much in at the area above the teardot. But hell, I might be wrong.
I especially like the area around the lips. All the wrinkles…amazing.

#513

Wow Anand, she just keeps getting better and better. I agree with you the first pose looks nicer. I’m glad you did her hair, maybe still need work on the hairline. I would think you’d want her hair to look thinner, it would probably help sell her age to the viewer. Right now it looks a little full. Can’t wait to see her done. Are you planning on the rest of the body or stop at the waist?

#514

so models like these look like they are quite highpoly… is it possible to animate a polymonster like that at all? or is this something only companies with huge renderfarms would be able to do? just curious to know about Zbrush and what the makers and users would aim for…

#515

Pose 1, picture 2 for me. There’s something about the crossing of the fingers and the far away look in that one.

P.s I’m afraid Max rules. It strides forward, manfully, while the others trot behind :o)

#516

Hey Abbey!! thanks!

Hey Serena! thanks a lot!! I’ll work on the hand.

Hey Razz! thanks, man!

Thanks, Joel! I will thin down the hair… I am still trying to find out some way to blend the hair-line, since it is a separate sub-tool… I think there is some thing for that in Meats Meyer’s DVD… need to look it up.

Hey Johan!! yes, it is possible to animate… what they do is export the model out at a lower subdivision level and use that for rigging… then they export the details from ZBrush as a displacement map, which will be used to subdivide and displace the model at render time… So the animators dont get any heavy mesh in there scenes. Displacement is expensive in terms of render times, so they subdivide the mesh only to a reasonable level and render the finer details using a normal map exported from ZBrush. Now, the normal map doesnt actually subdivide the mesh, but rearranges the normals of the object at rendertime so as to simulate surface detail… so it is much faster.

Hi Pete! thanks for dropping by… !!

Just trying out another pose… but I think I will finally go with the first one… still have to work on the arms and hands.

#517

Hm… I would have to dig into it to really know what you are talking about
Normal map is like a bump mapping then? (I only have a tiny 3dsmax and blender3D history if it comes to 3D applications)

Obviously, there is a lot to know about this… I feel like I will need an extra lifetime to learn all about 3D once I know all about 2D lol

Thanks Anand!

#518

yes, it is explained in the Meats Meyer’s DVD… Disc1… 4th video from 34 minutes onwards…
i just watched it recently…

it’s done by deleting all the lower subDivision Levels of the main mesh and then bringing the submesh using Insert Mesh option in Tools > Geometry

Then by using Clay Brush to give the blend feeling at the area where 2 geometry meets…

waiting for the next inspiring updates…

#519

Hey Nitin! thanks a lot!.. I watched that part, but “deleting all the lower subDivision Levels of the main mesh” is exactly what I DONT want to do at the moment!!..

I will probably have to project the detail of the hair on to the main mesh and get rid of the hair mesh… it was a bad idea in the first place!!

#520

yup, pose 1, pic 2… like piek mentioned, the far away gaze… sort of has a story to say in it…

this could be a moment in her life where she’s recollecting memories, of younger days, or maybe even recent ones, with her children and their children… she could be longing for that time again, thinking about her loved ones, wanting to be with them at that moment… oh yeah… the good times…

it could also be the exact opposite, her children dont have much time to spend with her. maybe she’s all alone in a big house, husband’s passed away… she could be longing to be together with him again in the afterlife… maybe she’s sad that she does not know how much longer she has to wait for that… and gazes away into space… hoping…

or maybe its something else altogether !! what say pg !! ??

but oh man !! do you really inspire !! see how your sculpture is playing with my imagination
