Here’s a couple I drew up at work the other day.
Pencil Sketch

Sharpie Sketch

RobertOrtiz: your last piece is great!! i really love the detail in the hair, and the soft shadows that define the torso… just perfect.
monicaitt: i have to admit, i love to sketch in sharpie, too bad i don’t have a scanner anymore, i go crazy with the color.
craban: i really get a sense of the shape in you last one, i definitely got a feel for the volume.
i’m going to try and knock one out tonight before bed
Here are my first drawings for the toros challenge. Been reading throught forums for the past few weeks and decided to start participating. I need to work on my figure drawing, I want to get to the point that I can make them up from my head.

I’ve been trying to post a few new pieces for about an hour trying different things but for some reason I keep getting error mesages. So, I’ll post my critiques and try to post the pics tomorrow.
Lexlex- Nice line work. If thats Aiken, SC youre from
howdy from an old thoroughbred.
Kewn- Looks like you dont need any help with art education, thats a great gesture drawing. Keep drawing, and drawing, and drawing. Learning to draw isnt anything more than learning to see by observing. Rebeccas right- get a sketchbook and draw!
LaleLoh- Your pencil drawings are great. I like the way you broke down the anatomical planes into larger shapes. Very dynamic.
Icey- Your stuff isnt junk, its great! Dont be so hard on yourself (yeah, I know easier said than done- and this coming from the master of negative self critique J )
Puppeli- your “Battle” is awesome! Nice depth.
Redsand1080- You rock. Love the line work and color.
MechaHateChimp- Great as always. Thanks for that quick color/dodge/burn tutorial.
Ytresu- Great line work and color wash. I had a college professor that used to draw in that style. Very cool.
Darktwin- Really nice pencil work.
Gilgamesh828- Wonderful color and light.
Thomasphoenix- Thanks for the compliment. Your drawings are incredible!
Aidanwilson- Great Neptune! Your new one of Christ is superb.
Mal-1- Great use of color. Nice Chiaroscuro.
Iridyse- same for you
really nice light and dark.
Vanlicht- Great David! I like the gesture drawing included with the finished piece.
Nothingness- Your laocoon has great depth.
There. I think I got caught up for the past week. If I forgot anybody specific please dont be hurt. Theres a huge amount of drawings on this post. Im running out of adjectives. Fantastic work everybody- keep it up!
vanlicht, that’s an awesome David right there. Smooth tonal colors and clean.
A ton of great work so far, it’s too bad I haven’t given myself much time to participate here.

Wow…such awesome werk goin’ up here! Haven’t got a chance to post in a while because of freelance werk, but I should have one tommorrow…hopefully.
TripletDad: The hatching on the pastel piece is fantastic! Great rendering. The leg is a bit twisted tho’ when you look at the kneecap compared to the foot.
michael-olszak: Thnx man! Can’t believe you did those on the computer…they look so much like drawings. I’ve heard of that program but have never used it. Looks like it could be cool tho’! It’s awesome to see how many werks you’ve been posting. You might want to try modeling the form a little bit more to really give it that sense of 3D. I’d really reccomend slowing down and really studying the figure and picking areas of intrest to pop more, by applying more detail, or pushing the contrast of light lights and dark darks. Also, it’s good to re-think the placement of forms once you’ve laid them down if they don’t seem quite right as opposed to just leaving them. Once you have your initial sketch down and you go back over it, analyzing it and pulling the details togather through shading, if you find that certain areas don’t add up, go ahead and try and figure out why…then erase it and re-position them to obtain the correct placement. That’s really how you start to learn and really improve, by getting things a little off, then stopping to figure out why, and then figuring out how to correct them. Because then, after you do that over and over, you start to apply what you learned from the previous drawing to the next, and those mis-observations don’t happen as often because you know how to catch yourself ahead of time. I’m not tryin’ to be pedantic…and I still have a long way to go myself, but hopefully I can improve and help others improve as well!
(Writing this stuff out helps drill it in my head as well!) The rest of my posts will be short tho cause I can’t write that much again.
craban: Nice gestures!
LaleLoh: Great subtle shading!
Womball: Thnx man! You defintely should give those mediums a shot…should be lots of messy fun!
piccolabella: Thanks you! I think your werk is awesome and has much dynamism.
MechaHateChimp: Thnx! Gorgeous werk as always. I’ve been checkin’ out your articles in ImagineFX…very informative and well put togather. I have gotten some great advice from the latest one.
Icey: Awesome pencil werk…I like how you showed the shading ‘across the form’ in the one pic.
Nothingness: Thnx dude! Appreciate that…especially since I have admired quite a few of the pieces I’ve seen you post. That Jupiter and Callisto is especially wickid…and so is that Laccoon!
Puppeli: That ‘Battle’ scene is very nicely rendered.
hearbeat: Thnx! Not to sound stupid or anything…but I think you did a great job rendering the rear of that one figure. It really has nice form…and stuff…yea…
But fer real…great job.
RobertoOritz: Really nice job on the muscle seperation with that Sybil.
Lexlex: Awesome countour line werks!
almostkungfu: Nice job on that fat dude!

Hi everyone,
CgIcecube: thanks for the support
Piccolabella: I’m working without thinking on the proportions, only thinking in the form…like if I was modeling a piece of clay,
This has help me in my hatching and in my line as well.
Nothingness:your laocoon is great, much hard work on it…and yes I love lines, I can’t help it, lines and contrast
Fes: your welcome! keep the good work!
Ytresu: I was thinking, what program do you use to make yours drawings?
they’re great but a think your lines could have a little more potencial and value in other program,
Perhaps photoshop or even flash!! Just thinking
Here’s a question for Rebeccak, Thomasphoenix, MechaHateChimp or anyone that can give an answer
what tools do the masters use to make theirs scketchs and studys??
It`d be great if we study japanese’s masters as well!
I`ve seven more
my scanner is giving me trouble
I’ve made this drawings without worrying on proportions, only line.
from the inside to the outside. All done directly with ink, except the last one ( bad line in this one  )
