AM shaded mode...wouldn't it be nice?

#1

if AM used the new Unreal Engine(or something like it) for realtime 3D? It just seems like none of the 3d programs make use of the pixel shaders etc. that the new dx9 cards have…

No kidding. I’ve sent similar requests to Steve. Maybe if everyone who was interested would do the same.

Almost none. I believe XSI can use them, and can also use your game engine as a plug-in…i.e. what you see in XSI will look exactly like it will in the engine.

Most people don’t have cards that support all that fancy stuff and a lot are still on older versions of DirectX. Plus, it would mainly be to make stuff look nicer when working on it…but you wouldn’t use it for the final render anyway (except for those making games). So I don’t see it as a high priority.

p.s. Of course they could try going the way Maya has been experimenting with, using a multi-pass hardware renderer. It gets ok quality (not good, just ok) at an extremely high speed. Could be usefull for TV series work.

I have requested the above also. I suggested that they improve things here and there until they end up with something that could be used to improve the render speed.

One thing that I notice with the current realtime renderer is that it has pixels missing around the place. This is something that I notice with arctic pigs also. Actually, it is possible that the AP people would have an interest in developing this area for hash as it would benefit them also.

honestly, I don’t see it as a high priority, but like you guys said, only XSI has something like this. I’m surprised at the lo-budget OpenGL and DX display we get with 3D software. Lightwave has Motionblur and shadows and maya has shadows, but I guess you can’t rely on pixel shaders to be as accurate as the final render, but it sure would look fancy!
