always face camera

#1

Hello,

I’m searching for a rhino script or plugin which
allows me to make an object (surface) that always
faces the camera. I want to use this for rendering
2d trees etc. (bitmaps with an alpha channel projected
on a surface).

hope anyone can help,

J.

Well I’m sure something like that could be done…well something you run before the render to orient the objects…with scripting. I don’t know that Photoshopping them in to a rendering wouldn’t work just as well, though.

Hello, found a script in a toolbar which can be loaded
in rhino3d. It’s named rendertools toolbar and the specific
function I was searching is named the billboard tool.
Apparently every program uses it’s own language.

install the rendertools toolbar, which can be found here:

The Billboard tool is what it is all about,
which is named: V4-RotateMapped.rvb

Run the script, select the billboards, let them face
the camera and render.

Hope this is helpfull.
