All Cameras except Classic= Alpha error ?

#1

Hey there,
I’ve encountered a rather strange error. If you have the time, please confirm the following.
Rendering a simple plane with an alpha map will generate a faulty alpha channel with every camera type except the Classic Camera…
Thank you !

In the advanced tab of your surface, ensure Refraction options is set to Ray Tracing + Backdrop. No idea why it works but our matte painters here had real headaches when they moved matte setups from Maya to LW via Beaver. It defaulted to Backdrop only and the transparent areas all came out black. Makes no difference if you have any ray tracing options on in the render global panel.

Hey Paddy,

Thanks for the tip ! There are definately some weird things going on in the environment surface tab. Quite the opposite is true in my case, the 2 options WITH raytracing cause the faulty alpha maps (strange, odd looking artifact alphas) whereas spherical map or backdrop only seems to work fine… Very peculiar indeed !

NT are aware of a bug where any reconstruction filter other than classic causes edge problems (because the filter isn’t applied to the alpha as well.

I think (hope!) it’ll be fixed in 9.5.

Hopefully yes ! I got around it now since all I needed was the 3d camera move for the plane, in more complex situations however this would probably have been unsolvable…
