Ok, have done a bit of work on the model. I think the hands look much better an dare a lot closer to the design. Also put work in on the head but I think hte lower lip ma be a little to fat now. Not much work on wrinkles in the clothes yet (almost none infact). Hopefully next update will include nostrils, thicker teeth and the fixup on the boots.

Kirt: just one question about your draw over. In the side view it looks like you have made the pant cuffs(at the top of the leg) smaller. At the moment they are gone but did you want them back and smaller?

wow! … I think now we have all the main characters mesh ready.
next step (after tweaking the meshes) is adding shaders and textures, that will begin soon.

I still think there are some problems that need fixing before we go to the next stages though. you’re right about everything you said adam…i took another look at all the sketches and it looks like the bottom lip shouldn’t be so pronounced. there should just be a sort of mold under it in the middle, like in kirts latest sketch. there’s also some sort of bump below the cheek (visible in the side view)

The pant cuffs are removed completely. I actually copy and pasted from one of your earlier WIP images. Ignore the pencil lines over the front and side view on the right. What I want is the legs that appear at left.

I’m also thinking that the yellow part on the boots is going to create problems when animating. I wanted this thing to be a metal brace like contraption on his shoe. However, when he walks I think there’s going to be to much deformation there. What do the experienced riggers think? Maybe we should go with some other boot design?

The mouth can be larger still. I think in the side view if you pull the corners of the mouth back to line up with the outside corners of the eyes it’ll look much better.

Top portion of the arms can also be larger in the side view. He should have the look of an out of shape ex-wrestler. He’s got mass from the muscle that’s now turned to flab. If that makes sense.

Ok, here is the next update. I think its looking a whole lot better now. I think the arms are ok now, what do you think Kirt? Also, fixed the mouth.

really? ok, I haven’t worked on the ears for ages but I s’pose we don’t want our earth bugs nesting in his head, do we?:smiley: I’ll have a little play with the later on this week. Anything else need working on while I’m at it?

ok, I have done a bit of work on the ear. The back of the ear now protrudes a little away from the head so it looks a little more ear like and not just a hole in his head, which is like I had it. I have also done some work on the inner ear. Is it small enough now?

Just wondering if anyone has any comments or criticisms about the model now? Any suggestions from the director/modelling directors?

I still think you need to make that upper arm thicker in the side view. It just doesn’t have that bulk that I’m looking for.

I also showed your head updates to a friend (just to see if they had any input) … first comment was, “what’s with the penises on the head?”

That’s pretty brutal … but the point is still valid. Those tenticles really need a lot of work. I was hoping to see more detailing done to this model before you posted up for additional critique. He doesn’t look too different than your previous update.

Take a look at the storyboards that are ready. There’s some character in those sketches that may help get this model pegged.

He’s close, but still looks a bit akward. :wip:

Yes, it was harsh but fair and I also got a similar remark by one of my friends just before I started work for this update.

I have worked on the tentacles and now they loot a lot better. I think this is the shape you are aiming for, right? I have also made the upper arm wider. Its getting harder to make it wider and not loose detail from other parts of the arm. I have also made adjustments to his legs and weight. When you say awkward, are there any specific areas you think?

Have you had any thoughts about the guards on the shoes? Can you make them elastic attachments or something similar or redesign the shoes altogether?

Hurray, Just won myself a free copy of Exposè at the Adelaide DLF meeting so I’m in a real good mood:D

The current version of the model has been sent to ila, now, I’m Just wondering if anyone has had any ideas about the boot straps yet, whether they are staying or being substituted for something else? I think this modle is nearing completion so I’m looking forward to finishing it off. Let me know if you can think of anything.

Hmm, I think hte general body shape may need a little work, I think his stomach may be a little flat at the moment but I think your pic made him a little to fat. Thanks for hte suggestion though.

Heya! What bugs me a lot since the first shot is that the sole of the foot is smaler then the ankle / lower leg. That looks odd because it looks like he can not stand with it. If you compare to Kirt’s sketch the sole is slightly bigger. Makes it look more natural IMO.
Though the plane front perspective makes the feet look very strange too.

Hey everybody. Its been a while sinceI have updated this character, still waiting to hear from kirt, so I thought I’d show the version I sent to ila (well, there have been a few little changes since then). I can’t remember all the tweaks I made off hand but I have made the feet a little wider. Let me know what you think.
