Is it true that Combustion can use After Effects plugins?
After Effects Plugins?
I’ve not used an Avid system, but Combustion does have a wide range of film grain tools…you can select which film stock’s grain charactoristics to emulate and has grain sampling tools to match grain between 2 composited elements. I think discreet has finally posted some demoware for you to check it out.
On the Avid DS system you can select various film stocks from Kodak, Agfa and Fuji. I’m curious if Combustion has something similar. I remember conducting a test on Discreet Smoke (beautiful system) and it had built-in film stocks.
Yes - combustion now (as of version 2) has this. Features from the IFF systems have been trickling down into combustion. It rocks.
Thanks for info Phatgroovn I’m planning to order a copy and a register a one day workshop with Discreet Training Center on Combustion. It’s about damn time a desktop comp package incorporated couple of IFF features. btw, how’s the learning curve on Combustion compared to After Effects.
the learning curve is not bad at all. It comes with a pretty decent manual and a very sharp tutorial book. While the tutorials are a bit “cookbook-style” and don’t tell you why you are doing things, they let you know where the functionality is - making them ideal for an experienced compositor that just needs to know how to engage the features. The particle system smokes on a machine with a beefy workstation card - however on a consumer level video card they really dog stuff down.
The thing i dig about combustion over AE is how much faster your workflow can be. There are still a few things that AE does better, but for an all in one package that is powerful and fast…c2!
What’s the specs on your machine? My current setup is a dual P3 866, 1298 MB. ram, Fire GL1 (32 MB.) graphics card. I’m assuming a 64 MB. card would ‘beef’ up the particle performance.
I run it on a dual 533 mhz G4 Mac with a Geforce2MX 64mb - it runs great until using particles, during which its not speedy, but acceptable. I also run it on a pentium 4 1.3 ghz, with an Elsa Gloria III - which smokes with particles.
