Awesome work Mark, as usual :thumbsup: I’ve got like zero artistic skills so… i feel like i’m eating the dirt :smiley: . Anyways, it feels good to be a part of such a fantastic project, though i dont know if i have contributed with something. Hi there ZuraK,

Thanx for your support dude, i hope to see some of your work down the track. I am hoping to get back into 3D but concepts seem to be my click at the moment. I learnt 3D studio Max about 3 years ago and hardly got into the full potential of it all. I find it easy to put it down as a drawing but when it comes to making 3D i just struggle. Thats where you guys come in.

ARGGHHH!!! mark, ive just realised something very wrong with the Aegis!!!
from a top-down view it looks a bit like a crusafix!!! NOT GOOD S**T!!!..ok…ok…im not paniking…right…slight rear-end re-design …ok…breath…right…i better get thinking about this…
(Dammit, Dammit, Dammit!! )

this is a problem because i dont want religion entering into this in ANY way…or people making any kind of religious comments about it…and i think having a crusafix shaped vessel may be a bit too suggestive…

A little comment about the Aegis - if it’s suppose to be massive then consider shrinking the launch bays for the smaller ships in order to give proper scale. This thing looks like it should be able able to hold a bazillion attack and support ships but it just doesn’t look like that now. Also - defense turrets and such. The long main hull of the ship seems to be a design flaw if ships attack the base were neck meets back end. It would break or might even trap crew if severely damaged.

dude…thats a really cool site (not a fan of football or mcD’s but thats besides the point) i REALLY like this…it would be very much appreciated if you would build a site!!! though, this project being what it is, there’s no money involved (i wish i could pay people…the standards here are amazing).

if you did decide to produce the website for this project…i warn you…its gonna be a BIG website…lots of info to put up.

btw: good point! but, there are reasons the Aegis is shaped as it is…but i dont want to write an essay about it right now, though i will explain soon (ish).
btw(2): i like how this project is becoming all ‘international’ good stuff!!!

Hello everyone

Well, i don’t think the lauchbays is any problem. Its good if they are big so lauching several ships at once won’t be a problem. If the lauchbay would be too small there would be a trafficstock when the ship is under attack, or what do you think? :stuck_out_tongue:

actually…i think (much) smaller fighter bays on the front section would make the ship look bigger. larger ships would launch either from a drop-bay (like in ‘Alien’) or from the rear bays. (bottle necks in the launch procedure are not a problem btw…there are automated launch-management systems to cope with this. all 100 fighters can be launched within minutes…)

so. here i post yet more requests for Aeigis refinements…(bet you hate me now mark!!! hahaha)

first off, i wanna say that I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY LOVE THIS DESIGN!!! my house-mates and I are totally blow-away by this…really…WOW!!!

  1. smaller fighter launch bays please (if we have 3 bays per side, the all 3 could fit in the current space that 1 currently takes up )

  2. a ‘return’ fighter bay is required (landing bay) this will need to be about the size of the current launch bay (1 per side)
    3. a series of ‘drop-hatches’ for drop-ships and small cargo vessels on the underside, close to the fighter lauch bays.
    4. can you lower the section that sits at the rear of the ship please?
    5. and…could you reduce the width of the rear section please?

    im gonna start working on concepts for the new rear section tonight…sorry about this!

Awesome stuff going on in here. It sounds like you really understand the universe you want to create and that is what is often lacking in most sci-fi. You are thinking about the technical details of how things fit together and work and it sounds like a great story.

Have to keep an eye on you guys!

Ok now…

I’ve remade the all corridor from scratch so I didnt have time to had the details.

So now i think the corridor have the right proportions, but i still have some doubts:

  1. The first ladder is in front of the data conduct or behind?

  2. The System acess panel is where the computers will stay, or it has one big hole on it (see render)?

Dude…these are looking pretty sweet!!!

to answer your questions…

  1. behind…allmost flat agains the wall
  2. they are behind panels…the inividual sections can be pulled out into the corridor for maintainance

and a quick couple of theings…

  1. the ladders need to be allmost as wide as the area they are placed in, but set away from the wall enough to allow people to grab the rungs of the ladder…simply put…wide enough, and just far enough from the wall to be useable.
  2. if you refer to the cross section i uploaded you can see that the slanted sections on the floor are grills which allow draining into the drainage system

  3. the section between the 2 ladder areas is actually covered in slanted panels. i notice you have made them into recessed sections…my fault…i didnt label them…sorry!

Some posts ago you mentioned all the factions, USM isn’t the only human facion right? Or is USM the leading faction that controls all other human faction?(I didnt really get the human faction thingy:))

yeh…i did leave out the operations personnel…about 1500 or so of them! (how did i forget so many people? hahaha! )

the Aegis is designed to be a mobile war machine…often very far from human territorys, it has to be totally self sufficient. NO ONE will come to save them.

all the human factions are seperate..here's aquick break-down

[b] Human[/b] (USM) : controll most of earths territorys...nice people

[b]Mercenaries[/b]: hired by the corporations (in the past) to do all the dirty work and keep people under controll...now they just cause havoc. bad people

[b]Rebels (3rd World Alliance/3WA)[/b]: started out as a resistence group opposed to the corporations dictatorship of earth...infiltrated and corrupted by Mercenaries..now they oppose the USM - bad people 

[b]Old Corporation Faction:[/b] based mostly on the 3rd colony, the OCF are trying to re-establish corporate controll over humanity by any means neccisary, even if that means enlisting the favors of the 'alien enemy' - VERY bad people

there are also factions within the alien races…in my universe NOTHING is black & white…its all grey area!!! …plot within plot, within plot…and all the ulteriour motives, and scheming, and backstabbing…fun place

Dene, I will start the correction of the corridor today as well adding the details.

I was readind your last post of the units description and man, the project its becoming HUGE. Went back to see the sketchs already made by Mark and you, read the story again, all the descriptions and i have to say WE NEED MORE PEOPLE TO JOIN the project. :smiley:

Im happy to see the level of detail the project is having and i hope to see more people joining the Aegis Project.

We should start separating the sketchs which are in development and the ones that arent, so anyone who wants to join should have something to start working on.

i agree…this project does need more participants. main thing is, i need to figure out HOW to organise all this, im no project manager…even though that is actually my role…hahaha!

see, this is why an Aegis2375 website would be usefull, we could have seperate threads and areas for the different parts of the project.

and speaking of story…the text i posted was only the outline / rough idea…theres actaully alot more to the whole story including large documents detailing why things happen and why the races are as they are, and why they hate each-other

looking forward to seeing the designs Paulo!!!
