Aegis:2375 - A Collaborative Science Fiction Project

ooh…interesting…

  1. i like the dimensions of the rear section…keep that 4 now
  2. could you widen, flatten and greatly elongate the rest please?

thanks mark!

ill upload another doodle of the aegis v.soon

#42

heres some more stuff

the aegis sketch is just to show how long the ‘nose’ should be compared to the rear section (its an old sketch)
the cargo vessel, well…i uploaded that…because umm…i dunno haha! but seriously, i uploaded that to show that the human tech is slightly varied, in a nuts n’ bolts fashion. function dictates form.
the Aegis2375 wallpaper…random upload

heres a couple of early fighter concepts for your viewing pleasure…

the concepts lack the right side wings because i can never manage to draw them very well…

Revised (The Aegis)

The ship has 2 bridges now, one for the front weapon and the other is the ships main bridge. I have put alot of defensive canons on the hull.

I will have to have a look at the other concepts thoughs fighters look interesting and i do like that cargo vessel…

Cheers Mark

#45

hmm…i like where your going here, but…(here we go! ) i think the latest aegis design is more suited to another ship in the series called the Abraxis, it based on the same frame but looks quite different as it a research vessel which was built quite some time before the aegis to test some of the technologies in the aegis (this is in the story outline). so, we now have a concept for the abraxis!..cool.

as for the aegis, id (personally) like to see the initial design expanded upon.
(refering to the first aegis…)

  1. i liked most of what you did, but as i mentioned id like to see the front of the vessel stretched out by roughly 60-80%
  2. i really liked the reverse / breaking thruster ports!!! infact i liked 90% of that design!!
  3. the aegis has its bridge near the centre of the ship, where it is most secure (whereas the abraxis does, as you have illustrated, have its bridge in a more ‘traditional’ position)
  4. i allmost squeeld with joy when i saw the first aegis design!!! it’s soooo close to how i imagined it!!! i think ill have to get working on pics of the various details…im so excited about this one!!! (excuse me, i must now perform the ‘super-happy dance’ … )

ill post more after i get some sleep (its just after 6am here…and im a tired young man now! i need sleep)

right…mark, im gonna send you a password for the zipped word document attached below, detailing some of the weapons / tech for the Aegis…maybe it will help…i dunno. please check your PM’s.

to everyone else viewing this thread…sorry about this but y’know…security and all that. its not that i dustrust the lovely peeps on this wondferfull website (and i mean that), its just that i have a slight ‘problem’ with paranoia at times… and staying up untill 6am doesnt help! haha!

I like where you guys are going with this-but I think that your ships need a unifying ‘feature’.

Think of the Star Trek universe. Every Federation Ship looks like a federation ship-be it a starship, or shuttel.
All Klingon ships, Romulan, etc etc etc, all have their own individual design features.

Now you only have 2 factions here (Human…Alien), but I still think that your designs need a single unifying feature. Think of the warp nacels in Star Trek. ALL federation ships have them-weather they are tiny shuttels, or starships.

Just my 2 cents. Nice stuff guys. Looking forward to seeing this progress!

#47

ahh…but the ships do have a unifying design style, its just that mark is putting out concepts at the moment (which are excellent), so, i suppose you could say were just experimenting right now…itll come together, oh yes, it’ll oome together…

there are about 5 factions in this sci-fi series concept of mine…ill post some sort of info sheet today. i just need to wake up first…

#48

quick post…mark, i really liked the particualr shades of grey and blue you used on the first aegis concept.

Here’s a sheet of sketches showing the ‘Xenocephaloid’ (pron: zeno-seff-a-loid) race / tech.

'Ceph Info…

The most accurate and brief description for this species would be something like, ‘sort of like a squid crossed with some of the weird fish found a depth in Earth oceans’. As far as their physiology is concerned, the Ceph’ are 8 ft tall / long (depending on how you see them) on average, with 7 seven extremely powerful tendrils, each with its own small brain, 4 of the tendrils have bones (used for self-defence) and the other 3 are simply powerful muscular appendages (used for foraging). Their head is home to 7 eyes and a 5-lobed brain as well as their ‘mouth’. As well as direct feeding the Ceph’ are capable of absorbing nourishment from the extremely nutrient rich waters via ‘Feeding Wings’. These wings can extend, individually, up to 15ft and can provide an individual Ceph’ with ample nutrient to sustain it. As well as feeding, the wings can also be used for amplified hearing and quick manoeuvring in emergency situations. As for communication, the Ceph’ uses their ‘mouth’ for short-range (3 or 4 feet) communication and they have a vibrating chest plate (similar to a speaker) for loud or long-range communication).

The Nature and environment of the ‘Ceph has made the species highly socially and psychologically evolved though technology was practically non-existent until the NasUR-ET ‘accidentally’ crashed one of their oldest Inter-Planetary craft on the ‘Ceph home world to see what they would do with it. The ‘Ceph passed this little test by studying the technology for over 124 years and finally developed and constructed a vessel capable of taking them into orbit. As the ‘Ceph-o-naughts’ entered orbit and circled half way around their world, the NasUR-ET revealed themselves via an Intercessor Construct which was left in orbit on board another ‘gift ship’ to observe the ‘Ceph and to make first contact with them.

Initial Evolutionary role; Territorial forager (highly defensive)

Home World

A gigantic world with a massively dense liquid atmosphere. There are various continents on the liquid surface of this world but they are not attached to the planets core, they simply float. On the underside of these continents the Ceph’ have built impressive inverted city’s, as the continents are roughly 17 miles thick there is no lack of natural resources for the Ceph’ to make use of, though this fact has not made them wasteful.

[Home world name] has 3 primary moons called, [name 1], [name 2], and [name 3] the largest of which, [name 1], has a Nitrogen / Oxygen Atmosphere and has its own orbiting body or sub-moon, called [name 1]’s Child.

Ceph’ Solar System / [System Name]

[Name of world] orbits a surprisingly Sol like star that the Ceph’ call [sun name]. Around [sun name] there is an immense asteroid belt, which provides the Ceph’ with all the resources necessary for inter-stellar travel. Around [sun name] there is a massive inert gas cloud giving the sun the appearance of being approximately 3 times larger than it is, this gas cloud colours the suns light a brilliant green.

Reproductive Method (s)

‘Gen-Exing’ (Mating)

The exchange of genetic material via genital membrane contact. No sperm or ovaries are involved as the Ceph’ are genderless / hermaphrodites. ‘Gen-Exing’ children are a direct combination of their parents DNA in that the offspring look, quite literally, like both their parents. Aside from physical appearance the young also inherit a kind of genetic memory and are born with an equivalent IQ of 120 (Human Standard) with a working knowledge of Ceph’ Mathematics, Science, History and Language. This method of reproduction is favoured by the majority of Ceph’.

‘Spawning’

Previously lain ‘eggs’ are fertilised by passing Ceph’. This method is not particularly favoured by the majority of Ceph’ as they feel it leaves too much to chance.

Self-Replication

Self-spawning from self-fertilisation and birthing. this method is often used by ‘Cloners and has caused’ political / philosophical friction between ‘cloners’ and ‘naturals’.

Suffering Genetic degradation after 5 generations, cloners use augmentation to keep genetic disolvance at bay. This integration of technology disgusts the main civilisation and is the root of internal conflict (on philosophical level).

i’ll upload similar sheets for the other races today/tomorrow…(if i have designs for them)

here’s a list of the races…

Human (USM) / merc’s / rebels (3rd World Alliance/3WA) / Old Corporation Faction
G’ung D’ao (pron: gung daw (as in down)
Huyakhaan (Pron: high-yoo-kaan)
Jeetoo (pron: G 2)
Narvorla
‘The Fallen’ / Karura
Xenocephaloid (pron: zeno-seff-a-loid) / Cloners
NasUR-ET / NasUR-VoL
The T’ek-ne’shA (Pron: Tek-Nay-Shaar)

starting to think i might need a dedicated website for this project…now if i could just magically be able to code sites…

i obviously have way too much free time on my hands! hahaha!

#51

and some human stuff (USM)

#52

I do like the way you present your ideas.

Here is a concept Cargo carrier.
I was thinking maybe we should work on one at a time. There is alot here. So you Dene (director of this project) assign a job to me and i will do that before the next. I think my brain could go into melt down…hehe

Mark

#53

hi mark…excellent work…as ever!!!

some info about the cargo frame…
. it can carry very long containers (3 or 4 times its length) and 2 cargo frames can ‘top and tail’ a extra large container (much like freight trains do to move large amounts of cargo).

ok…one at a time eh?..ok

then i ask that we work on the Aegis. seeing as its the main focus of the series.

#54

something you might find interesting…

the human vessels in my little sci-fi universe are coated with a self-organising ‘display’ polymer…essentially, they are covered in one huge screen. just imagine…when a vessel is docking, no more docking lights…the whole vessel has chevrons scrolling accross it’s surface!!! (well i thought it was a good idea anyway) this polymer can also emmit light at quite a high level…enough to produce search lights etc…(no that a vessel would need them with all those sensors on-board… )

i know this sort of tech is allready in development so i thought id include it. ahh the blessings of reading new scientist…haha!

#55

Ok i’m stuck =)

(Great as usual Mark)

I think i need some more info about this dropship, i bet it got a couple of hatches for personel and space docking. Basicly some more detail (maybe one or two high res concepts)… especially about the folding of the wings, since they where compact and extendable (i think they need some work). Anyways, should i drop the dropship (wasn’t that funny? :p) and start working on The Aegis or should i just keep going?

Btw: I can put myself on hold for a couple of days until the concept and other information is processed.

#56

hi mike!

i think we’re moving intio the beginings os an ‘organised’ project here (very early beginnings though)

so, please bear with me whilst i try to figure out what i need to be doing!

i suppose it would be an idea to “drop the dropship” for the time being im afraid…as mark (element5) has so rightly suggested, we need to focussing on one thing at a time. as such we’re going to be working exclusivley on ‘the Aegis’ for the time being.

if you really want to render something, try this segment of corridor (not the most exiting thing in the world, but it IS relavent to the Aegis).

(this is the only view available at the moment…i know my design is a bit out of shape, hope its still possible to work on! )

thanks for the continued assistance mike! (any chance you could post the WIP of the drop ship please? )

#57

hi again,

Here is a quick revise of the Aegis design, What ya think?

Mark

#58

Wow guys you are going to fast… heheheh :bounce:

I think Mark is right, Dene you should be “assigning tasks” because theres a lot of stuff already around here.

So i did start the modeling of the ceph fighter, i will post what i’ve already did when i get home (at work now). But now i need to know if i should stop and wait for the final sketchs.

if you really want to render something, try this segment of corridor (not the most exiting thing in the world, but it IS relavent to the Aegis).

Since the project is starting to get a shape, i think we should follow an more organised way of work. So Deane, if this is the final version of the corridor i can start doing it.

By the way Mark, you are doing a great job!

#59

hey, excellent work yet again mark!
heres my thoughts… (groan haha! )

  1. not too sure about the opening sections at the front
  2. i really like the circular port just infront of the rear section. keep that
  3. the docks at the rear of the ship need to be a lot bigger to acomodate a cruiser (the aegis is 3 mile long remember)
4…(speaking of which) the ship looks…i dunno, ‘small’ somehow.
  4. i like the way you’ve shaped the front section. still needs to be longer though.
  5. the first aegis sketch i uploaded is the latest whereas the last is the first and posted as a rough guide to the rear/front proportions.
  6. the rear section needs to …umm…be ‘swept back’ a little (like the first sketch)
  7. all weeaons will ‘pop-out’ of the hull, this making the ship look ‘sleek’
  8. some key words to remember for the aegis: Fast, Sleek, Tough, Smooth, Imposing…and…bloody HUGE!! hahaha!
  9. i like the way the ‘protrusion’ at the rear rises fromn the ship, with the ‘collar’ around it…v.good!
  10. on the first sketch…the section the hangs over the rear is the primary sensor platform…just for reference.

ill post some doodles later today…just as soon as i wake up properly…

(im such a pain in the arse…really sorry!..i just want the aegis to be as close to perfect as possible…and, THANKYOU so much for all your help this far Mark…i really appreciate it!!! )

#60

hi Zag!..yeh, thats the final version of that type of corridor…ok, it’s the ONLY version, but still.
sorry about all this…im new to the whole ‘project organisation’ thing.
