so yes, a phpBB forum (for team members and development etc… and a flash based info site for finished art / concept art / story overview etc… just stuff to refer to and things that we want the general puplic to see.

 of course, id want to be an admistrator on the site...naturally...haha! 

as far as the logo goes, im curently having a go at it as we speak, ill maill you all the bits and fonts, see what you come up with.

ill also work on a header image for the site (some animated gif thing i think) ill also decide on one of those BB themes to use as they’re quite good.

Hey guys, I see you are on a quest for order.
I hope this thing don’t turn out like the lord of the flies or something.

Personally I think you are doing a good job so far dene.

However I think a web site is premature at this point.

I’m a minimalist, so maybe it is just me.
But I think creating a web site at this point will add to your work load
as well add to the confusion. And is kind of redundant.

Starting other threads also will mess things up a bit as well.

Keep it all here. Your project will be too spread out all over the place.
and that will make it hard for people to know where to put there focus.

All energy should be focused on getting that few seconds of the trailer done.

My suggestions are…

all you need is one large space to keep all the files online.
with a few folders. maybe an ftp server or something.
Only people with pass words can get in. you should have
control of who can get access if possible just in case.
Because people tend to come and go.
No need for a fancy site or anything like that.
Once you get the trailer done you can then make a site for the trailer
and story and stuff like that.

what you also may need is to decide what program you
are going to use to do the final renders.
once you know that, then you will need someone you can depend on
to put all the lose parts together. The best person
for that part normally should be you, but if I am correct you are not a
“CG ARTIST” ? If that is the case, the next best thing is to find
a partner or team for post-production that is in your local area.
That way you can help to edit and direct the final footage.
All the pre-production and art work models,concepts, can be done as it is now
by your online team.

I also think that it is not so important that
everyone has to know or be in on everything you do.
We all should trust in your vision as the director.
we all only really need to know things that help us to do what we do better.
and just do our best to do what we each do to support the effort.
You just need to give a general progress update every now and then
to keep us all motivated.

You all are doing a great job, try not to burn yourselves out.
Trust me it’s a long journey to the end.

back to working on my stuff… LATER!

some good advice there!

i think we do need some form of reference site where i can place the story / info and the concept art, so i can just reference a part of the public Aegis:2375 site instead of posting a huge amount of text here, or, i could just link to a particullar piece of concept art on the reference site. keeps things tidy!

i would like to keep this thread going, for my own pleasure and so that people and potential team members can see whats going on.

and no, im not a CG artist, nor do i have any skill what-so-ever with 3D apps. all the skill i have is in Music (80% Creating music / 20% DJ’ing) and Concepts (as you see here).

ill have to start advertising locally for that post-production team you mentioned… but this is leicester i live in, it may be one of the most diverse city’s in england, but it can be kinda crappy!

Kool, I am a musician too. I love to make music.My whole project started because of a song I wrote a while back.
I even got into computers to make music, then it grew into 3D graphics.
I can’t wait to make the sound track for my project :bounce:

a brief idea of what might be in the trailer… (not in order)

. a chase scene on earth involving 2 of the central charactors in a sports car chasing the ‘big-rig’ down a futuristic motorway

. a panning shot of the Aegis in orbit around earth (insert solar flare and shots of the underside of the ship to show scale)

. a space battle scene between the Aegis and several alien fighters

. a ground battle scene involving tanks / mechs / power armour and aliens

. a panning shot of an earth city

. an under-water battle

. a USM fighter entering earth atmosphere

. generic big-ass explosions

. Janna Tsung kicking arse with a Katana (samurai sword)

. a shot of ‘The Weapon Moon’

[edit] nearly forgot… a brief clip of the 'Ceph ‘Terror-Drone’ (all very ‘monster in the dark’)

also, lots of blood and screaming with an intense soundtrack.:twisted:

these are just some ideas so far.

aaah, that’s a great asset for your project !
with that in mind I can see it coming together a bit smoother.

My suggestion:

You should work with “element5” and get him to create the shots you want to see in the
trailer. Then have him send them to you so that you can edit them with music and some
basic sound effects and temp voice over or character voices.
Then make a video file and post it to show how long it will be and what it will show
and the basic idea. That would really tighten things up a bit and help us all
to see what the goal is a bit better. And would be great fun to watch :smiley:

But make sure you ask “element5” real nicely, he is over worked and my go postal :scream: LOL

Some kool music traxx you made too hope to hear them in the sound track :thumbsup:
I will try to post some of my music when I get some free time.

The ideas for the trailer were great but you need alot more people do be able to do that.
I would like to join. I am a newbie animator and special effect designer but i also do a lot of video editing. So i hope i can help you with that section.

WOW!!! So much stuff to read! Thread is on FIREEEE!

Concerning the web site…we need more stuff in order to build it, and with the help of zag…which knows html , we can program a flash enabled site with some php routines ( automatic file resizing etc. ). A nice web-board will be simple to make using phpbb indeed.

I opened a temporary Domain Name here : http://aegis.mediahost.gr
WE can now set up FTP connections and stuff. I additionally did a rough install at http://aegis.mediahost.gr/forum
a PHPBB Forum. But i still need to set up the topics and stuff :slight_smile:

What i can do now…is have a huge web space with FTP access / permissions.Additionally i can have a minimal design just t host the team’s files and stuff.

Concerning the logo now…Dene…do we really have one? I can construct one killer logo if we dont. Perhaps you can send me your High-res scetches and try to make it 3D. We really must place a nice under-construction there.

ANOTHER URGENT THING TO DO is have MSN MESSENGER Access, that way we earn a lot of time and we can transfer data between us rapidly.

Hi! I had some time this morning to do some work for aegis. Its a shame i don’t have more time today. So this is about 2,3 hours into the model. Maybe i have some time tomorrow to get it to the next level. Was a bit tricky working from a thumbnail sketch and one first draft without feedback. But i hope i got close to the initial plan.

The arms can be extended and opened and closed, i thought that should be enough movent to lift and manouvre objects, and make it nice and compact when docking back into the mothership. I thought the magnetic idea was pretty good. But the place in the nose was a bit weird, so maybe we can just place them in the arms?

The things in the front of the arms are small thrusters to manouvre in space. this way the front can be rotated. The main thrusters are in the back. The top ones are already modelled, but the bottem ones not yet. The ship will also need some side thrusters in the back to support strafing and rotating the back from the front.

I will probably add some more small thrusters here and there to give the ship the degrees of freedom and manouvrability it needs to do its job properly.

The Tank is looking ace Mark, nice and gritty. Any chance of a side and top view and maybe a shot without the tarp over the turret? Cheers
