Aegis:2375 - A Collaborative Science Fiction Project

#301

technically, this rig wouldnt even need a window, any info the driver wants can be displayed either on his/her retinal displays or the window of the vehicle, plus, the rig is AI controlled 99% of the time for saftey reasons. the only time the rig is human-controlled is when it leaves the transport grid, though this is very rare. [edit] there is a human driver just incase the systems fail, and because perople feel more secure having a human overseer in such a massive machine.

id doesnt fly per-se, but, yes, it does hover, but only about 6 inches from the ground, to eliminate tire-road friction.

havnt seen it, though i did love streethawk ‘back in the day’. glad you like the project!! thanx for the input!!

Hi Guys

Did some modelling work on the atmospheric processor…

I have changed the concept slightly to give it a bigger and more industrial look.
hope you like it…

#303

Excellent Work Dude!!!

a few points and some crit…

Info:
. these processors are placed within city’s so there wont be space (above ground) for those extra modules
. these units are about 1000 ft tall (to give you an idea of scale)

Crit:

  1. i think this needs to be a little more angular
  2. the front needs to be ‘sharper’
  3. no external pipes
  4. it needs the grills at the base to blow out clean air (refer to my original sketch)

overall i really like this!!! keep up the excellent work!

:deal:some process guidelines when building models: (applies to everyone doing 3D)

First model: as close to the concept art as possible
second model: interpritation
other models: refinement

(im going to be thinking about guidelines…all part of the 'project management process sadly.)

Just wanted to say the whole project is really promising. I would really want to help with this project, but i think i could not commit myself enough because of all the other things i am working on at the moment. So i will just give suggestions for now and maybe i can help you guys later on.

First advice is, you guys really need one central site to work on and try to get more organised. This will work for now, but as the project will grow, and it will, you will need some storage space people can work with.

For the looks of the project, yeah, i really like it. It has this new feel over it and i think it can really have its place between all other sci-fi genres. The only thing that concerns me is the alien race that looks kind of mechanical. Somehow, it looks a bit less realistic than all the other artwork done up to this point. I understand how hard it is to come up with something that works within a concept, so keep brainstorming on it.

Maybe it would be smart to make a trailer or pilot to define a feel for the series and get some more feedback from people to refine the concept. You would not need massive amounts of modelling and texture work yet and might be 5 - 10 minutes. This way you might be able to attract funding and more interested people.

About the concepts, concept scetches are really good. Modeling looks solid up to this point. So as long as you guys stick with it and create a solid point to work towards this whole thing could really get on tv.

Keep working on it and i hope to see it on cable some time, hehe

#305

well, thanks for the offer anyway:thumbsup:, if you decide youd like to contribute, even if its just a little something whenever you have time, please feel free. at this point in the project there are no deadlines.

absolutley true! im currently hammering out ideas for the structure of the site and trying to come up with graphics. i think to start with id like a site that serves as a reference to anyone who works on this project and also have it as a site for people to view our progress. id like to keep the discussions on cgtalk so that people can keep track of what we’re doing and, hopefully, generate more interest.

 Thankyou!!

yeh, i might redesign them a bit, they will remain mechanical, but hopefully look better!! haha! i just want to get away from the whole ‘humanoid-alien’ thing wherever i can.

the current aim is to get a 30 second ‘teaser’ together for just that purpose!

again, thanks!!

thanks for the excellent crit & feedback!! its very much appreciated!

Hiya all,

Raining and cold here…bbbrrrr hate winter.

Here is a Building update.

Mark

#307

aww…hehe…winter? australia? haha…o…k… what temperature is it? (i bet its what ill consider warm hehe)

excellent job on the building there mr Mark!
1 crit. the front (left end) needs to be vertical without the slight slant. aside from that, its absolutley fine:thumbsup:

#308

Hey dene,

Yes its about 4 degrees C, but thats probably a hot summers day for you …hehe

I love it hot, the hotter the better. 30 degrees C would be nice about now.

Sorry about the angle at the front.

Anymore vehicles to design???

#309

ok, 4 degrees is a bit chilly haha! i prefer about 15 degrees myself, and 30! tooooo hot, 37degrees makes me dizzy and pass-out!! haha…(not fun)

right…
here we have several choices
the attatched files…

  1. a medium usm fighter (about the size of an f-16)
  2. a special forces fighter (50>70% longer than an f-16)
  3. a mobile cannon (bloody huge. 1500 feet long, i think)

or, vehicles that need designing…

  1. tank. on tracks
  2. mech tank (4 or 6 legs. max of 30ft tall)
  3. some kind of open top jeep thing, like a hummer but all future-like
  4. scout bike
  5. escape pod

take your pick. ill write up some details.

#310

Dene, i like the general shape of those crafts…but i would prefer a more aggressive look ( it seems that Alien tech is more advanced compared with the aliens. )
A nice example would be the tie-fighter aggresive wings, if you can recall them.(!)

Mark : Awesome designs, i have already started to model the Moon-base, so i would appreciate if you could draw me some more references.!( especially, if you could have a close-up of those tunnels you seem to connect with the interior of the planet , and some Gates if you can.! ).Also, if you are good with color designs, i would like to have a close-up at the land that all this base is installed. Thx mate

Jeff : Nice man  Try adding some more detail and a crack-or-two on the main exterior , dont forget that mar’s atmosfere tends to rust and destroy metallic surfaces! i am not talking about textures here, just a general disformation maybe? You know better

–Albert–

#311

hey dude!.

yeh, the Aliens have far better tech than the humans do (in most cases). throughout the series the humans will be buying and stealing technology from various alien vessels / races, as well as the developing new technologies as the series progresses. by the end of the show the Aegis will have quite a few modifications! as will the fighters and other vessels.

as far as the aggressive look goes, i thought that the fighters looked pretty aggressive as they are! but, i suppose i could make them look a little meaner!

VERY much looking forward to seeing the moon base Albert!!

btw: im going to do some sketches of the Mars City fairly soon (set inside Vallis Maneris)

#312

maxFX: i will try and get something done for u…

Dene: I will go with the tank with tracks and the mech tank, can i have details dude

#313

these need to look (technologically) similar to the human ships.

      Mech Tank:

. probably 6 legged with tracks set into it’s ‘shins’ so it can kneel down and use them to cover long distances without walking.
. has a number of weapons systems (see weapons list)
. has a large ‘sniper cannon’ set to one side
. has a ‘pilot’ but that pilot is well hidden from view (behind lots of armour)

      reference searches:
patlabour / ghost in the shell / robot-jox etc...
      key words:
      solid / strong / high-tech

      Tank:
. much like a modern tank
      . very large / wide
      . amphebious
      . 2 crew members

      key words:
      strong / armoured / imposing

      : WEAPONS :

H.E.P. Cannon (High Energy Particle Cannon):A focussed beam of particles, highly powerful with a maximum range of approximately 5 miles. Advantages of a H.E.P. Cannon are; No Ammo, High Accuracy, Low Maintenance, a ‘Cutting’ or ‘Explosive’ Effect and efficient power usage. The main trouble with particle cannons is the H.E.P. Step-Up Coil (6), which sits on the outer rim of the weapon and is moderately vulnerable to attack. If the H.E.P. Step-Up Coil (H.E.P.-SC) is damaged whilst charging a shot, it could potentially explode with quite some force, destroying the cannon, the housing and at least severely damaging the hull around it.

      125mm Assault Cannon

Similar in concept to the main cannon aboard an A-10 ‘Tank Buster’ though this cannon fires much larger 125mm rounds tipped with either a plasma charge or Anti-Matter charge.

    Rapid Fire Unguided Micro-Missiles
Small (12”) plasma tipped un-guided missiles capable of being fired in rapid succession.

Guided Missile System As above, but with guidance technology.

     Flame Thrower
We all know what these do!

     Kinetic Cannon
      Fires Ultra-sonic projectiles

hey albert! just noticed what you said. just some info: the materials that those tubes would be made of aren’t metal, they’re some kind of composite, and corrosion proof. the deformation wouldnt be nessecary as the tube would be very strong or pressurised, though sometimes they would be a vacum but still, they would need to be resistant to deformation.

Hi

First of all, those guidlines for modelling would really be helpfull.
And perhaps i should not start modelling too soon (but i felt like “building” something  )
Dene: Anyway…I wonder why you didnt like those pipes i added on that Atmospheric Processor  (I have added them because without them the whole thing looks too “military” imo and all the pipes and stuff made it look a bit more “industrial”)
I also startet remodelling the whole thing (with big vents and no pipes) and will post some shots asap,
but for the next two days i´ll have to learn for a test on monday, and therefor must stop modelling

a few more points concerning the AP:

  • what material are the walls made of?
  • what´s on the back of it (have to guess that by now)
  • could i have one or two more sketches of it?
or blueprints if it has to be very “precise”. (mark this one goes out to you  if you don´t mind )
-Dene you once wrote that these Atmospheric Processors are built on earth to reduce pollution… but you were just talking about mars´ atmosphere?

-Albert: I m really looking forward seeing that moonbase… and as you have seen, i´ve allready modelled a “highpoly” roadmodule and i´m currently working on a version with not that much polys, so if you want to integrate mine, you´re welcome. If you want to model it on your own, just let me know to prevent from having it twice.
and thanx for your comment… dene allready took care of the technical things (he is really quick!!) and since i didnt do too much architectural things yet (but i think i like it:) ) every comment, crit and so on will help me…

#316

ill sort those out over this weekend

the whole human ethic, with regards to buildings, and all other technology is, Function Before Form. a structure of that size would have ample internal space to contain all the pipes. at most there would be a ‘cut away’ section showing pipes and workings. these structures are all made from generic templates to cut down manufaturing time and cost.

good luck with that!!!

basically, it looks like titanium. doesnt rust and is coated in ‘active polymer’ (like a spray-on tv screen)

there are no details on the rear of the AP but ill attempt some rear-view sketches this weekend.

these AP’s are used on Earth and Mars, indeed, on all of the worlds where humans live.
on Earth, they are used to clear some of the immense amount of polution created over the last 300 years (the previous corporate ruled governments polluted Earth so badly that the planet is close to being uninhabitable). on Mars the AP’s are being used to convert the atmosphere. on the Colony’s they are used to eliminate pollution BEFORE it even starts to become a problem…

i hope this helps!!!

Man you´re so quick:thumbsup: and you have an answer to every question, i wonder how you can come up with all those facts that quick… very impressive man:thumbsup:

titanium is one of the most expensive metals and it is quite rare so it doesnt fit in the whole cost thing. Think about something like fiber reinforced steel oder some sort of synthetic metals. (and titanium is so…real:shrug: …there should be more exotic futuristic materials imo)

haha! thanks! well i have been thinking about this stuff for a few years now!

it Looks like titanium, its not actually titanium  its actually:
[edit]
changed…sounded mean, sorry

this should clear things up!!

#319

element5: I’m not sure if you read my previous post, but have you got any sketches of the rims you want on the E5? It’s pretty much the last thing I have to model before I get on to texturing.

Dene : Some thoughts :

This IGP , is not correct ( scientificly speaking ). No plastic polymer can live longer than 78 Years. Plastics can get corrosive from 55C > temperatures, and tend to break very easily when very cold. Additionally, plastic tends to “breathe”, making it unsuitable for air-lock enviroments.

IGP should contain small fibres of titanium and carbon fiber , mixed up in a very nice glass-like material , maded , not like the real glass from Earth’s sand, but from Mars sand. This glass, when overheated and be contained within fibres of titanium and carbon fiber , makes a solid material, that has the following capabilities :

  • Material can be flexed within 2 1/2 hours from the first heating. Then becomes useless to manipulate.

  • Material has enormous life time ( 350 years before first signs of corrosion ).

  • Material is very cheap, since Mars is full of Titanium & Sand.

  • Material is Extremely light, making it suitable to be used in Automobiles, spaceships etc.

  • Material can be heated with metallic paint, making it, impossible to loose the paint, since its embedded in , and the thick transparent “glass” will reveal the color inside.

What do u think? Just some suggestion
( Man…this mat will be a pain in the ass to make )

Jeff : Why model my own mate? Since you are modelling to, that’s the point sharing the load! Btw…what software do you use ? Are we 2 the only modellers?
