Advice on post production needed

#1

Hey-hey!

Here is my new project! Modelling done in Blender 2.73. Texturing - in Substance Painter and DDo. Rendered in Maxwell Standalone v3.

I will be more than happy to hear a critique)) But what I am really not big in is post-production… I want to do it, but I have no idea what sort of effects will do here. May be you could give me an advice? Any advice really - have no idea where to start ))
Here is UPD (I leave the old model just for comaprison:))

Here is the model

Hi!
Nice model and textures!
I’m not good with post production too unfortunately.
Maybe the lighting looks a little bit too flat. Especially the darker areas look a bit too black in my opinion. I know nothing about Maxwell though. What kind of light setup are you using?

#3

yes! the model is too dark )) Maxwell render does an automatic gamma correction, plus my textures were initially too dark)) I will fix that, just a little bit later - have some urgent stuff to make at the moment. Thank you so much for checking up on me!

a car paint shader on that red area with nice flakes reflecting the light would be cool, right now, the lighting doesnt scatter as it should…

example:

car paint

car paint 02 (cherry red car)

for post processing, maybe this helps:

Totally! I removed flakes from Maxwell in-built car material, since I thought it makes everything look too smoothed out, but if this detail is the one which will give more realism to the picture I will surely rerender it with flakes and compare the results!

Thank you so much for the advice and video! :)))

#6

Are you working in a Linear workflow for the Lighting?

#7

hey! i spent some time veryfying that. I export textures from Substance Painter in sRGB 16 bit PNG. I believe that is the format that Maxwell is using. Maxwell Render also does 2.2 gamma correction by itself, but I raised it to get a lighter image (i think that was not enough in this case - right arm is still black))).

I hope it was a right answer. If i am doing it wrong, please, let me know!

Thank you!

#8

Hey-hey! Tried to update the image and totally forgot about flakes! Darn it!

Do you guys think it might wourk without them?

#9

you can add some decals, stickers, details in post, nice background or volumetric effects, depth of field, fix antialiasing issues, change color scheme

#10

hey! thanks a lot! :))) great advice about DOF, totally forgot abour it))) What do you mean by volumetric effects? Fog? :))) And also are there problems with anti-aliasing? could you, please, point them out?

Thank you so much again!

on leg for example

#12

gotcha! thank you)))
