I am making a text based image out of bright jewel tone colors. Is there a way to have it cast the color it is onto a plane behind it, kind of like stained glass. Is this done with caustics only? Anyone have some techniques to do this.

Hi Scott,
You could use Konkeptoine’s RTS glass shader or if you don’t have that, use RT transmission, use a RT light and enable RT transmission under the shadow settings, then go to the material editor and under transmission / Raytrace shadow settings use the controls to your preference, you’ll have to manually set the transmission color for each object, you’ll also see a “use transparency” option which might be usefull here.
Hope this helps.

Aye Reuben is right on the money…
Though if you don’t want to use RTS then you can just do what the Igors said in this thread
