Advanced Twist on IK Spline rotates in reverse on -X

Hi

Using maya 2012. I’m creating twisty segments for the arms but when performed on the right hand side of the character (-X) the advanced twist controls rotate in reverse and in my latest attempt at double speed!

What is the fix for this? I’m certain others will have encountered it.

‘Object Up (Start/End)’ is the type.

That sounds like double transformations to me. How have you got it all set up? Post your file.

Possibly, I’m much more concerned about it rotating in the wrong direction.

Edit; btw the right side wont be setup properly yet, I was trying to fix it first - that’s my attempt at recreating it, which only achieved the extra rotation (still in the wrong direction).

If you want to see how it SHOULD be setup check the left side.

Hey,

I ran into the same problem today. after trying stuff out I found the solution. The orientation of the axis of the bones are wrong. Right now the x axis of the bones are pointing up the chain. So pointing at the shoulders. This is probably because of the mirroring of the joints. they should point down the chain like the left arm. So if you reorient the bones the ikhandle should rotate the correct way.

Hope this solves the problem.

Hmm well for the twisty segments I suppose it doesn’t matter of the behavior is mirrored or not so I’ll give it a shot. :thumbsup:
