is their a way to add a specific group to a bone?

Hello.
Sure. Hit F5 to enter the Modeling Mode, and then select your group. Hit “H” to hide the rest of the model. Hit F6 to switch to Bones Mode. Select the correct bone and then draw a box around the visible Control Points. Now the CP’s belong to the bone.
