add custom map to ocean foam?

Is it possible to add a custom map to add foam to the ocean shader?

I have a robot character slowly rising out of water, looking around and then walking towards the shoreline. This is in the sea, not a pond or lake, so I was able to use the maya’s ocean and a wake emitter to get the main water as well as nParticles for dripping etc. I have also added a projected 2D fluid to create a foam around the character, but I can’t get this to map into the foam at all on the ocean because it seems to only add extra foam around the peaks of waves.

If there any way to connect a map to the foam ignoring the wave height?
