I don’t know if an occlusion would really make a difference in such a dark scene. Is my scene too dark overall?

Occlusion would help make the bounce and fill light look more natural. You don’t have much bounce light yet, but if you set those up in a separate pass, then that’s the pass that should get mulitplied by the occlusion pass.
