Acting WIP - Fashionably late

#1

Hi guys!

After that epic month-long effort on my Warcraft scene (currently waiting for some sound effects before I properly render it once and for all), I decided to kick it back a few notches and work on an acting clip. In a huge contrast from the Warcraft scene, this one took me less than a day (so far).

I’ve mostly done action scenes in the past, so acting scenes are still relatively new to me. Would appreciate any feedback from you folks!

It’s a clip from Daria (I think), and I used the Andy rig, which I think has good facial controls - but I absolutely go insane with its keyframe set up. I think there’s a “character set” function that keys every control every time you adjust a single control… does anyone know how to switch that off? It’s great to block out a scene with, but later on you just end up with keyframes EVERYWHERE. I tried selecting “No character set” and all, but that doesn’t seem to help.

Anyone here an expert with the Andy rig?

PS I noticed that her fingers don’t touch her jeans in the second half of the clip. It seems to be just fine in Maya though… I’ll fix that up in the next pass.

Hi drewpan,
It’s getting there.
I think maybe you could look at her hip movement? it moves left and right and is quite floaty.
Her face on frame 67, why does she look angry?

Good luck!

Its getting there, when she says “well” and whips her hand, to me it feels a bit to fast. I would slow it down a bit. Also when she says “fashionably” her neck and body whips around a bit fast as well. I would move her neck a bit more as her head rotates to, some animation there might help with the turns. The rest seems to be pretty close to finalized, the 2 suggestions I made were the main things sticking out to me and like the final pose. Keep it up…

I’m loving it.
Please go on and good luck.
Cheers

Thanks guys! I’ll work on those notes and get another pass up.

You’re right. I think I’ll tweak that frame to have one eyebrow up and one down. Thanks!

As for the hips, I think I’ll speed them up a bit, so they don’t meander to their positions.
