okay here´s the story: on his first flight on the gss edwina, mr. gnommsen looses his beloved hat due too a sudden rush of wind. Because its a good hat and he really likes it, he quickly grabs a rope and jumps overboard, trying to get his hat back:
Very rough still. I don´t really have a design for the vehicle. I thought of something crafted out of rusted cans pulled by a goose, but might be something completely different, too…
That is one major inprovement. Specially if that is the bottom of the ship we are looking at.
Now you can start detailing, and be carefull not to make it to dark. (Or make it a nice night scene 
)

thx for the replies. Night scene sounds tempting - i´d only have to paint some glowing windows… hmmm 
here´s a new pic. I changed the ship (it was way to big before). I liked the dragonwings, maybe i´ll put them back in later. Also changed the format of the pic. I think it fits more. What do you think?

This looks better than the last version, but I think you should focus more on the actual vehicle. You depicted the dwarf leaping after his cap very vividly, which is a nice detail, but the character shouldn’t be the centre of attention.
But since this is not finished, and you intend to work more on the actual airship, I think that’ll change eventually…

Yup, now the attention is drawn more towards the vessel itself. It has a nice steam engine feel to it.
Perhaps lighten the composition a little (or darken it, if you’re going for a dusk scene) and it’ll be fine! 
ok as the deadline is closing in, i´ll call it finished now. Did brighten it up, some minor changes (especially the gnomes face) and cleaned up a bit.

I didn’t see anything this time around regarding the thumbnails. We’re all patiently waiting for the new Challenge website to open (hey, lildragon … don’t think your off the hook due to the last crash. I remember you accepting the challenge for Sept. 7th 12:00a :D). When that happens I’m sure they’ll have info available for the submission of thumbnails and voting for both challenges (Beast of Burden and Above & Beyond).
