Above and Beyond - Vehicle/Character - Blake Kehler

Well I’ve been watching these challenges every since the first pirate one and finally decided to enter one. And since my 3d skills are lack of a better word crap, the 2d will be just fine. Even though my 2d skills are not something to brag about either.

Anyway, to the challenge -

When I read the guidelines my first thought was of Kit Cloudkicker from Disney’s Talespin ( I loved that show ) Anyway, but I couldn’t just make a plane, so I then thought of those wakeboarders with instead of a boat they use a kite. Well here is my version of the two.

This was just to get the basic position of the picture.

A little more detail.

If you would like to build your own - firstly modify a skateboard to have one foot hole, get an old small bike handlebars, if you press the break on either side that sides engine reduces power (don’t ask how this would really work I don’t know, they never said it had to be realistic). Then you build a hollow light as possible metal kite, attach to rocket’s on it, the rockets are powered by 2 seperate chemicals stored on the bottom of the kite which when mixed produce a smal explosion of some sorts that propels the kite and rider. Again I don’t know if that is possible or if two chemicals even exist that do this… leave me alone :stuck_out_tongue: And finally attach two water skies to the bottom of the kite to land… somehow… (good luck with that one)

Then for no apparent reason I just purchased some new prismacolor markers and had nothing to try them on, so voila.

I’ll get coloring this weekend.

good concept…only thing ‘bout your last pic is …don’t know if it’s right but the guys’ right arm seems to short…and depending on your colorization i’m not sure if the chest fits the style of his shorts…keep us updated :wink:

Blocked out some color, the metal really bugs me on the kite. I can’t get it to look right, oh well. And his right arm still looks too short, I can’t seem to make the perspective look right.

Good, bad, your eyes now demand hazardous work pay for viewing this image?

Started added some detail to the character, I was going for a sort of ‘OH SH*T I’m going to die! This is awsome!’ Sort of expression on his face.

I lightened up the background to make it a brighter day.

I also changed the color of the skiies on the bottom of the ‘vehicle’ to a wooden sort of look, purple was just ugly. But you can’t see that in the close up.

Any suggestions?

Well unfortunately I do not have the time to finish this challenge. I will try and enter next months if I have the time, but best of luck to all the participants.

Hey there, you got a real nice movement flow going there. I like it. As for your “OH SH*T I’m going to die!!” look, yup, it’s certainly coming across as that heheheh. Exspecially since he looks as if he is trying to pull back with his body and snowboard. Good job!!

It’s still a bit to early to give any real critiques though because it seems you are still blocking the colors and everything else in. But, I will keep an eye out for future updates.
