wow…very stunning piece. I love the details and scale. I have to be honest, I have seen this type of image before, the bombed out cathedral… but i feel yours is the most successful I’ve seen to really show the details and believable elements.
GOOD JOB!

absolutely fantastic Tomas, this has the dark, day-gone-by feel to it. I looked at your portfolio as well, you have quite dark and impressive works!

#5

This is awesome ! I love the atmosphere and detail.
Fakt super praca, len tak dalej

Thank you dudes for such positive replyes, I really appreciate it.
I know that this is nothing original, I have also seen hundreds of destoied cityes and ruins of catedrals…But to be honost there are kind of topics that I never get tired of, just like nice looking cg babes or vampires and some more commonplace, and this is one of them. Its been a plesure to done this piece using the photoshop and listening to the Fallout soundtrack

I love it! totally somehthing different from all the other entrys… nice work on this… good mood

#8

Hey man!
Your work looks fantastic, i love it… your sense color and the dark atmosphere… cool.
As always, you show all of us how to kick asses. yeah good work :applause:

I like the reuse of the main Staircase in the Natural History museum as a Cathedral, but you might want to pick a less well known landmark and photographto use as a basis, or at least cite the major sources used (although I appreciate the humor).

Hi Andres
Thank you for reply… I´m sorry that I doesnt mention my sources…I thought that just mention David Edwards and his contest is just enought. I found my sources here http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?f=196&t=484423 .
Thank you for warning me  of course I used the photograh you post.

A-TOM, I find nothing wrong in using photography, what counts is what we do with it, and you have done hell of a good job.

#12

Nice work there! love the atmosphere!

I dropped a link to this thread in the mattepainting section to be sure the old challengers of nhm would see it.

Keep it up, want to see more

Hal.

Phase One of the contest was to retouch a people crowded original photographic plate to create an empty museum to show no people or signage anywhere.

A_TOM,
you agreed that you used the original plate that Per-Anders has linked in a previous post.
Out of curiosity, how long did it take to clear out the people and other extraneous items from the original plate, assuming you retouched the original plate?

There is secret place hiden. Chamber of memories, human kind memorial…foolish human kind lost in ashes of time. My wild imaginaton begin generate one of these crazy ideas…original or not, for me important is that this place has its own spirit, so rare feeling i get from this one. Realy good

Hi Bill
This image took me a little more time than I would like to spend on it… but this first point of retouching the poeple and some of the signs took me no more than weekend. I only sorry for that I missed the real time of the contest to take a part of the challange.

#16

Yes! I see.until i see it than i seem which a picture likes yours and that I siad, growing so many plant.
so i see which that and this all of yours gallery.
(my english it’s poor,sorry)

#17

Thanks for posting the early retouched image.
I like the mood/atmosphere of the final. I would say this is more oriented towards illustration then matte painting, due to the stylization. But then IÂ’m not a working matte painter, just a dabbler.

Hi Tomas,

Really nice approach with this, the urban smoggy feel is very strong, alomst choking in fact  reminds me of one of those places i’d love to find in some futuristic war torn abandoned city.

Nice work on the surrounding buildings, a few minor perspective issues, but nothing too bad

To add a little critique for future work, try to hold on to a little colour, it’s very easy to over saturate. Again same with the contrast and levels, this is another one that can easily be overdone, the right side of the image been a subtle too dark.

Over all good stuff

David.

Really nicely done. The only crit I would have is the lack of debris from the fallen roof. Where is it? The only debris I see is the pile of pews in the center of the cathedral. Would there not be a massive amount of debris cascading down and over the right-side (as we view the scene) staircase and ballastrade? Even the ballastrade would have collapsed or had damage showing from the heavy stone and structural supports crashing down on top of it. There would be a very large pile of stone debris at the base of the stairs and across the rest of the floor of the church… No? (my reference is some of the photos taken of the British Royal family - George VI and Queen Elizabeth - surveying the damage to some of the churches and St.Paul’s cathedral during the London Blitz in WWII, and, other photos of churches damaged or destroyed in Europe during WWII) Otherwise, a VERY well done render.

Hi there FitArtistSF
Wow thanks for comprehensive comment…Ehm, YES, you are absolutely right  . I know that this image miss a lot of details that would make it more believable and realistic and one of those things is surely the debris from the roof (why I didnt realize this before  ?) But I didnt want to spend such a long time on it… I have learnd the thing I want to and try to make some mattepaint ( which became more illustration  ) But you are right I will try to think about it more next time…Thanks

Hi Dave
Thanks for such positive comment… I know that I am not very skillful with the colors but I am trying to work on it… Hope that my next work will move ahead… Again thanks for crit.
Cheers
