A:M not taking commands ( Help ! )

#1

When I set my centerline to zero, the propertiies panel shows the input fields change to zero, yet the C.P.s do not move.
When I select the centerline again, the settings show the previous settings.
Also, I have an earlier version of the model with a centerline exactlly on the zero mark, yet when I do a copy flip attach, the model has a small seam running down the centerline, and the CPs are not mirrored. ( I can’t use mirror mode )
As a test, I opened the models in a previous version of A:M and it showed the same results.
A:M version 11 t ( Or whatever the latest is ) running on a Toshiba M200 1.6 Centrino /256 mb RAM / GeforceFX 5200 32 ( or is it 64 mb ? )
All other programs run fine …any clues as to what I can do ?
I plan on buying 1GB of RAM today for it BTW.

Thanks all.

Pardon me, if you already know this, but what you are discribing sounds exactly what happens if you enter 0 into the pivot position. I do this all the time, since the X, Y of the pivot is now located where the old absolute X, Y positions used to be. To set all of the points X position to 0 now you need to set the pivot X to 0 then scale X to 0.

Hi Vegan,

The way that you worded your post is a tad bit confusing but I think I follow what you are saying.

When you say that you are setting your center line to the zero mark (x axis?), Are you trying to say that you are selecting one or more control points and then moving the pivot point of that selection to zero of a particular axis?

If you are doing that, moving the pivot of that particular selection wil not move the geometry associated with it. You will need to translate or scale the selection accordingly.

Try grouping your selections…

A:M will recall your pivot location for any named group that you define. Meaning: if you create a group, select it, move its pivot, then deselect it… when you reselect that same named group, the group will remeber where you moved its pivot point and it will appear where you left it last.

If you did not previously make the selection that you were working with a group then even if you select the exact same geometry again A:M will not recall your pivot’s location for that selection.

Can you show us a picture of the wireframe you are having trouble with. It might be easier for us to identify what that particular problem could be if we can see it. Also, if you have Mirror Mode switched on when you are doing the copy flip attach then turn it off and try it again.

Ok Vegan I hope that helps you.

Please keep us posted.

Hey folks, thanks for the advice.
I wrote a detailed explaination of what I was doing, but when I went to post, it asked me to log in, and I lost the whole …essay.:banghead:
I was logged in at the time, and even did a preview post to check, but still didn’t connnect for some reason . Any ideas what I am doing wrong ? This has happened to me several times in the past as well.

:banghead: It just did it again. I can’t seem to get CG Talk to see me as logged in.
I just wrote a detailed explaination …but

Maybe I’ll e-mail you in person

Thanks.

Well is it working now ??? Let’s try this again.

To make it short :
I have my model split in half >
select the middle spline using the comma key >
set the pivot to “0” , set the scale to “0” ( why … it just pops back to 100% anyways ) >
Select the whole model >
Do a copy flip attach
= The model does a copy flip , but no "attach "

Also, mirror mode does not work.

Thanks

If you’re sure your centreline is on the axis, the best way to do CFA is this:

Select a part of the centre spline
Press ,
Press /
CFA.

Well, well. It works !!
Thanks Ken. I appreciate it !
I hit the " , " key , pressed the "/ " key, and right clicked > copy flip attach.
It worked … but my eyes and inner mouth were not selected along with the group.
I guess I’ll try doing them seperate.

I’m still puzzled. Why wasn’t it working before ?

Thanks again guys ! :buttrock:

By picking the mirroring axis first, you’re telling AM exactly how you want to CFA…or something like that.
If pressing / doesn’t select all the model, just press shift and bound box it…

Thanks again for the help.
The strange thing happening now, is that when I “/” the model, the head gets selected, but the eyes and inner mouth / teeth do not.
I thought that this may have something to do with the fact that I imported them as seperate elements and merged them into the model.
Is there a way to tell A:M that you want you want imported models to become part of the original model ?
I shift and bound box the entire thing and it does select the eyes and mouth as well … but … it displays the same problem that I was having before - the model does not attach and mirror itself.
I tried mirroring the model and then mirroring the eyes afterwards, but the eyes are mirroring ( doing a C.F.A.) on a different axis. What could cause this, and how would I fix it ?
Thanks again
