A gorilla in zbrush

#1

Hi all,
my last little personal project. My focus on this was to achieve a “realistic” look with fibermesh and zbrush´s bpr render. So the software used is zbrush and final touches in photoshop.
Any feedback good or bad really appreciated!
Thanks in advance for your time

Thats great mate, maybe it could be add more color variations in the skin and the model then it could be superb!

How’d you do the fur?

Hi logante! Thanks for the input! Yes, totally agree. I´ll give it a try.
Hi Tad,
for the fur I started by doing some tests with the fibermesh, just to get comfortable with all it´s parameters. Actually it´s quite straight forward, but at least for me, the main parameters to keep an eye to, would be the length, MaxFibers, coverage (this one controls the width of the fibers, so it kept it pretty low ), gravity and clump sliders. Also, it makes a huge difference in the look to increase the segments of the fibers.
Once generated the fibers, for grooming and to have a better control, under any groom brush, in the brush options > fibermesh, there is one option called front collision tolerance, wich by default is set to 50, reducing it to 10 or so, gives a more predictible behaivior to the strokes.
The brushes a I mostly used, where the clump and turbulence ones, with pretty low intensity values, with simple and random touches. And in some specific ares, the groom and lenghten brushes.
Also the fur is not just a single fibermesh subtool, its composed of 6 or seven. Sometimes one of top of each other with slight different settings.
Hope this helps!
Cheers

The fur looks smooth and the lighting/shading is nice. It’s simple yet somehow still catchy to the eye. Well done!

Hi thundercloudstudio! Thanks for your comment and gladyou liked it!
A bit simple yes, when I have a some time I’ll try maybe a pose a little bit more interesting and see if I can push the idea a bit further

Wow thats some good work man, at first look it looks almost perfect but like LOGANTE said a bit of variation in the skin would have sold it a bit more and the browm hairs you have on the head area should stick out abit more, maybe abit lighter, and also abit of fine tiny hairs on the skin around the mouth aswel would be good. but all in all very good i think

It looks awesome, can’t believe u have done this fur using fiber mesh, u must have spent lot of time to get right feel…like the lighting, did u render out in Zbrush? or key shot

How ever I’m wondering why you used Zbrush for fiber mesh, why not real fur like yeti…

Great work and nice details…

Hi,
thanks again for your input!! Really appreciate it.
The reason to choose fibermesh over other hair systems, was basically to give it a try as I never played with it. And even if I am completely agree with your inputs in regards of color variations etc., i´m quite happy to see that it works well for “quick” concepting ideas, so avoiding to move to other app and set up the fur system, lights, shaders etc. to see if the model works.
So, thanks again! I´ll take in consideration your ideas and try to improve it in the future.
Cheers!
